RUSHED, SURPRISE #ROCKET LAUNCH: There was no warning. On Thursday night at 7:28 pm PDT, a Firefly Alpha rocket lifted off from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. It carried an unusual #satellite named "Victus Nox." Stephen Hummel saw the launch more than a thousand miles away at the McDonald Observatory in Texas:

"A bright exhaust cone expanded to cover a large area of the sky during astronomical darkness," says Hummel. "After the cone faded, there was a slight red afterglow" probably caused by the rocket #punching a #hole in the #ionosphere.

Latin for "conquer the night", Victus Nox is a US Space Force experiment, testing the ability of Firefly Alpha to launch a #military satelite with only 24 hours notice--a so-called "responsive #launch." In the past, typical Defense Department launches took anywhere from two to five years. The last responsive #space #experiment, the June 13, 2021 launch of TacRL-2, required 21 days.

Alpha Firefly successfully launched Victus Nox only 27 hours after it received a "go" notice. The extra 3 hours was a result of a #weather delay. The mini-fridge-sized satellite will now provide "space domain awareness" data to the Space #Force.

GOES-16 #SATELLITE SEES #ARTEMIS #LAUNCH: NOAA's GOES-16 #weather satellite is stationed almost directly above #Florida, so naturally it saw the launch of NASA's Artemis moon rocket on Nov. 16th. Infra-red sensors recorded the rocket's hot plume cutting through the atmosphere as it left Earth:

Thanks to Spaceweather.com reader Jim Ruebush for alerting us to these GOES-16 data!

This is a "Band 8" movie. Band 8 is an infrared channel at 6.19 microns tuned to the thermal glow of water vapor in clouds. It works well for rockets, too.

The Artemis rocket successfully propelled NASA's #Orion #spacecraft toward the #Moon. It'll be back in about 25 days after orbiting the Moon and safety-testing onboard systems for future astronauts

#Launch Of #Apollo 11 In #RealTime (July 16, 1969) - #FranBlanche

I meticulously synchronized the console audio from the Booster, #CAPCOM, Flight, and RETRO feeds with footage from dozens of sources to come up with an experience close to what you would have gotten being on the inside of Mission Control on a headset for the launch of Apollo 11 on the morning of July 16, 1969. Enjoy!

#Russia releases video of intercontinental ballistic #missile #launch

source: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-61170853

The Russian #defence ministry has released video of what it says is a successful launch of a nuclear-capable missile.

The new #Sarmat super-heavy #intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Plesetsk spaceport in the north-western Arkhangelsk region and landed in the other side of Russia in the far-eastern #Kamchatka peninsula.

President #Putin said it was food for thought for those who try to threaten Russia.

#Crystal-lang ?
https://crystal-lang.org

am 8. Juli werde ich zur Crystal Conference – 1.0 Launch Konferenz gehen,
also sitzen.. zu Hause, remote..
