There are three characters in the Mahābhārata that depict three understandings of faith.

There is Duryodhana, who feels that the ego is supreme and that society is to be authoritarian under his standards.

There is Arjuna, who knows the ego is not supreme and, with compassion, refuses to set standards for society with an iron fist.

There is Yudhiṣṭhira, who falls in the middle. He is a seeker who has not overcome his ego (at first) but grows into understanding once he quits gambling away his opportunities.
