A #terrestrial demonstration of why it's just about impossible to see the #Moon's surface and #stars simultaneously. Tonight the Moon and #Jupiter (a wandering star or #planet) are in #conjunction -- well just about. And here are two images taken with two different #exposure time.

The first is with a #ShutterSpeed of 1/6 s. The lit part of the Moon is a white featureless blob but, because it's a #misty #night, there's a wonderful #ice #halo which shows #colours from the #VisibleSpectrum. You can see Jupiter directly above.

Next, with a shutter speed of 1/100 s, the #surface of the Moon shows much more contrast but you can barely see Jupiter. Also, the #fog is also invisible.

I've produced a #calendar for #2023 featuring some of the images that I've also posted here from time to time of #sunrises and #sunsets. You can download the full resolution #PDF file from the link below.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/17Eq7WeC7NVF8-MkDnXFW6ZMdHZQLwCuA

I present here some lower-resolution sample images.

The calendar itself was produced by and extracted from #Emacs which can output into #LaTeX.

In #StructuralEngineering #Analysis, #InfluenceLines are used to depict the variation of quantity at a particular location as the location of a #Load or #Action is changed. In the #Animation shown, we can see the change in #BendingMoment in a #StaticallyDeterminate #Beam as a unit force moves from one end to the other. Both the #BendingMomentDiagram and the influence line for bending moment at the centre of the left-hand span, B, are shown. The influence line is often used as a tool to determine where the load should be placed to cause the most extreme cases of interest, say for #design purposes.

Today is the penultimate full day of #summer in the #northern #hemisphere if, like the majority of the population on the planet, you live in or east of #Europe or #Africa. The #equinox will occur a little after 02:00Z on Friday 23 September. With today's #sunset, I present two #photographs but each both in #greyscale (or #BlackAndWhite) and #colour.

I think the contrast is better in black and white #image and you can more clearly see the #birds flying about. The colour one is of course richer and has that extra dimension.

This wider shot shows a greater expanse of #sky with more variation in colour (only for the colour image, of course).
