#fog

The #CricketWorldCup is taking place at the moment in #India. For those who don't know, the cricket season in India is usually in late autumn, winter and early spring. Cricket also needs good playing conditions, such as dry weather conditions and sufficient light to be able to see the ball, both for the batting and the fielding sides. Night-time #cricket has been a feature for decades and so bad light conditions only arise rarely. But in today's match between India and #NewZealand, play was stopped temporarily because of #fog. I've never seen that before.

Having had two dry(ish) days in #BannauBrycheiniog, it is not surprising that that the third was wet and not by a little. I usually like using my paper maps and #DeadReckoning to #navigate my way around a new place but I forgot to bring my compass on this occasion and so I had to revert to #GPS (don't tell anyone else) in order to find #SugarLoaf near #Abergavenny. I couldn't see much else but at least our #hike was 12 km and so it was still worth it.

Here I am surrounded by #ferns trying to figure out where I should go in the #rain and #fog.

A #terrestrial demonstration of why it's just about impossible to see the #Moon's surface and #stars simultaneously. Tonight the Moon and #Jupiter (a wandering star or #planet) are in #conjunction -- well just about. And here are two images taken with two different #exposure time.

The first is with a #ShutterSpeed of 1/6 s. The lit part of the Moon is a white featureless blob but, because it's a #misty #night, there's a wonderful #ice #halo which shows #colours from the #VisibleSpectrum. You can see Jupiter directly above.

Next, with a shutter speed of 1/100 s, the #surface of the Moon shows much more contrast but you can barely see Jupiter. Also, the #fog is also invisible.
