Global warming is accelerating. Nothing is being done to stop or slow the dangerously rising heat.

If anything, Big Oil, AI tech bros, and the politicians they own have doubled down, going all in to extract as much oil and gas as possible and make as much money as they can before everything falls apart.
\
Which means we're firmly on the way to 2°C, then 3°C, and quite possibly higher.
This global warming is annoying. Everytime a cyclone could strike Chennai, I must buy things to stay put in home.
With work from office nothing goes forward during bad weather.
The freezing weather last week disrupted #Glasgow's #electric #buses, causing their batteries to drain faster than usual, and leaving people stranded during their commute.
Some of First Bus’s double-deckers were halted mid-journey due to the freezing temperatures.
I've less confidence in battery powered airliners. It's a bit chilly at altitude.

The question of whether global warming is accelerating is hotly contested among climate scientists. While some have argued that the current rate of warming — which hit an all-time high last year — is strictly correlated with increased fossil fuel emissions and therefore aligned with current climate models, others have cautioned that the Earth is far more sensitive to fossil fuels than previously thought and that humanity is hurtling toward tipping points from which there can be no return.
In a recent study, a group of researchers from the University of Melbourne complicated this debate with an analysis of warming rates across the globe and possible causes for regional differences. Their principal finding: The globe is getting hotter at a faster rate, but this acceleration is occurring unevenly.
Surprisingly, densely populated areas with large concentrations of poverty — megacities like Cairo and Mumbai — are warming more slowly than urban centers in Europe and North America. Why?
The researchers found that the large quantity of aerosol particles in the air of highly polluted cities reflect sunlight back out into space and, at least in the short term, can have a net cooling effect on populations.

#British #police arrest #environmental protesters at nearly three times the global average rate, research has found, revealing the country as a world leader in the legal crackdown on climate #activism.
The research comes amid an outcry over the targeting of #climate and environmental #protesters, with a rise in the suppression of dissent around the world as the climate, biodiversity and #pollution crises take hold.

‘This is my Chernobyl:’ Texas ranchers watch cows die because of PFAS.
Tony and Karen Coleman have watched 39 of their animals die and are now joining other Texas farmers suing the EPA. They believe forever chemicals in fertilizer sludge contaminated their land. #ClimateChange

UN human rights expert raises concerns about US charges against climate protesters | Climate crisis | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/dec/04/un-human-rights-expert-cellist-climate-protester
In the letter, which was sent to the US diplomatic mission at the United Nations in Geneva, the UN experts raised concerns about the factual basis of an assault charge against Rozendaal and Connon, resulting from a complaint by a member of Citibank’s security staff.
After participating in another peaceful protest, the two activists were also charged with criminal contempt, which carries a seven-year maximum sentence.
The assault charges were dropped after the security guard failed to submit a deposition. The contempt charges were resolved by the pair pleading guilty to “disorderly conduct” – referring to Rozendaal playing the cello in a public plaza outside Citibank HQ and Connon sheltering him from the rain with an umbrella.
Playing cello is now a serious crime. Sadly, the US is not the only country criminalising peaceful #climate protesters.😔
The U.S. used to be wise to these things, but that was in previous centuries.

What traditional buildings can teach architects about #sustainabilityOscar Holland, CNN
Wed December 27, 2017"'We wanted to retrieve a sense of heritage, but in a modern way,' [Driss Kettani] said in a phone interview. 'We tried to use the same (energy-efficient) solutions found in the small earthen towns in the south of Morocco – to do with ventilation, the circulation of air and the control of light.'
"Large north-facing windows (and small south-facing ones) reduce the amount of direct sunlight entering the school, while ensuring that classrooms get enough natural light. And the arrangement of the school buildings maximizes the flow of air through the complex, creating a natural cooling system.
"These – and other – vernacular innovations meant that there was no need to install air conditioning at the school, despite the hot North African climate. For Kettani, it was just a matter of common sense."

Climate scientists have been warning for years that climate change is supercharging storms, broadly speaking. But connecting specific rates of warming to the ferocity of specific storms was out of reach. Now a team of scientists has developed a model that, for the first time, allows them to calculate how warming ocean temperatures have contributed directly to wind speeds in individual hurricanes.
The Phoenix Botanical Garden used to give classes on such things; I attended one.
