Na super. Nach der Migration des vierten Notebooks auf #Fedora 40 schwant mir langsam, dass vermutlich "MAC address randomization mode" eingeführt wurde.
Jedenfalls tut #DHCP im eigenen #WLAN nicht mehr wie erwartet und die Clients werden von der #Firewall abgebürstet.
Erst mal rausfinden, wie man das abhängig von der SSID wieder deaktiert. Eigentlich war mir gar nicht langweilig...
I can finally say I've upgraded successfully to #Fedora40. It was not without hassle this time and it started with what seemed to be a system that did not even give me a prompt after #rebooting, although the update process had seemed to go smoothly and quickly. Luckily, the virtual screens were working and so I could #login to a #shell. Although #sddm didn't seem to be working, #kdm was and so I was able to open a desktop session, but only in #Gnome. There were still problems running #kde #programs such as #konsole and #korganizer as some #qt #libraries were missing. Installing those allowed the programs to run. Also, no #audio devices were being detected and so I couldn't play any clips, etc.
Today I found that #kwin was also lacking a library (#qtsensors) and so after that was installed and I rebooted the machine, I found that sddm was working again and so I could log in to the #kde session that I usually do. Also, the #sound issue was solved by removing the directory #wireplumber from ~/.local/state.
(The other day I did an upgrade of my working laptop from #Fedora 39 to 40, with a bit of shivering as always when pursuing such an endeavour, but had to learn that this worked well without any real hiccups. Always a relief. 🙈)

However, Fedora aims to take its use of “AI” even further, and wants to start using it in the process of developing, making, and distributing Fedora. This is where more and more red flags are starting to pop up for me, because I don’t feel like the processes and tasks they want to inject “AI” into are the kinds of processes and tasks where you want humans taken out of the equation."
Ich habe den Eindruck, dass die Standardsoftware von #Gnome mit der Zeit immer unbrauchbarer wird. Mit dem aktuellen #Fedora ist der Viewer für Bilder 'Eye of gnome'. Damit kann man Bilder nicht mehr auf die Schnelle um 90° drehen.
Alternativ gibt es noch den 'Bildbetrachter' - der kann drehen, aber dem fehlt die Möglichkeit, das Bild dann zu speichern.
Soll man jetzt für diesen Standardjob Gimp starten? Das ging doch ein Jahrzehnt lang out-of-the-box.
