'Once upon a #Forest - #Documentary #Film - #Auroville #Botanical #Gardens
The #Tropical Dry #Evergreen Forest is the rarest of forest types in #India, as it’s range is narrow and these areas have been population for many thousands of years.

Tiny fragments remain of pristine forest, protected by the local cultural practices.

Today less than 0.1 percent of the forest remains in a form that resembles what it might have been like before the arrival of humans.

At this juncture in time the forest still has an important role to play, as we attempt create a resilient environment that we are able to pass on to the next generation. The effects of climate change will be felt along the Coromandel coast of Tamil Nadu, as the intensity and frequency of cyclonic events increase. This is a forest that is adapted to the strong winds, through its dense rooting systems and low canopy height. It is a remnant, but a precious one, that has many lessons to teach us and gifts to offer, it is up to us to get to know it and receive the wealth it can provide for us.'

Half of Kew Gardens tree species at risk of death owing to climate crisis

#Botanical gardens lost 400 trees during 2022 drought, prompting research into potential loss in coming decades

Founded in 1840, #Kew #Gardens says it houses the largest botanical collection in the world.

During the drought of 2022, the botanical gardens in south-west London lost 400 of its trees. Scientists at Kew decided they should map and chronicle the climate risk to the trees to see how many could feasibly be lost to the changing weather in the coming decades.

A little 'spring cleaning' today, trying to thin the pond of digital dwellers in my photo files, to make space.

I came across this, suitable for the very wet day today (U.S. Memoriial Day)

Above is a pitcher plant.

Koi (carp) are gathered nearby. (Selby Gardens, FL)

Fish pic is on Flickr, where there is a huge collection which remained over the years my huge Google+ collection was alive.
