It is late November in #Ottawa and we still have #flowers out!
https://spacey.space/@OrbitalGardens/113436610286469791 OrbitalGardens@spacey.space - Japan has launched the first wooden satellite into space, new plant experiments have just arrived at the International Space Station, Hungarian scientists have been growing mustard plants on simulated lunar regolith, and there's a huge buzz around plants that grow in the dark!
Those are just a few of the stories you'll find in this week's Gardeners of the Galaxy Mission Report.

https://fosstodon.org/@elaterite/113409482410950598 elaterite@fosstodon.org - These are Washingtonia fillifera (desert fan palm). They are the only native palm in the US desert Southwest. All of the palm trees seen in cities are non-native cultivars. There's only a handful of sites where W. fullifera survive. This grove is near the Arizona / Calif border in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Sadly, I didn't have time to climb up into the canyon where the palms are. I had to make haste to get to the Grand Canyon to photograph the comet!

https://toot.wales/@petersketch/112588254959740842 petersketch@toot.wales - I had a really, really bad day on Thursday. And then when I got home I found the Fox-and-Cubs which takes over my front yard at this time of year had flowered for the first time and suddenly things weren't so bad. #WildflowerHour #Swindon #Wiltshire #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography
A little 'spring cleaning' today, trying to thin the pond of digital dwellers in my photo files, to make space.
I came across this, suitable for the very wet day today (U.S. Memoriial Day)
Above is a pitcher plant.
Fish pic is on Flickr, where there is a huge collection which remained over the years my huge Google+ collection was alive.

https://mstdn.ca/@3DBill/112264527317629714 3DBill@mstdn.ca - There are a couple of places in Strathcona, #Vancouver BC, where the #sakura (#Prunus) trees meet in an arch over the streets. The pink one is 'Kanzan', the white one is where the root stock of an old tree has overtaken the graft stock and grown into a tree in its own right.

Apropos of nothing, I offer this presentation that my MIL did earlier this year. It has to do with inter communication between trees, fungi, and other plants.
It's fairly technical, but pretty informative. If you have an hour to spare, give it a listen

HONEYSUCKLE.—The Honeysuckle, or Woodbine (Lonicera), is so called on account of the honey-dew found so plentifully on its foliage. Originally, the word Honeysuckle was applied to the Meadow Clover (Trifolium pratense), which is still so called in the Western Counties. French Honeysuckle (Hedysarum coronarium) is a foreign forage-plant.
