A sophisticated heist in the Netherlands has dairy farmers there on high alert.
Gerda van Dorp, a Dutch cheese farmer in the town of Fijnaart, in the south of the country, woke up on March 29 to a mostly empty cheese storage room. Overnight, unknown thieves had taken from her shelves 161 wheels of cheese, weighing 3,500 pounds, that had taken months to make and mature. [...]
The thieves also stole her trailer and two wheelbarrows from the farm, the police said, presumably to transport the cheese to a bus or a truck.
So the "sophisticated heist" is... they broke in and stole her trailer, wheelbarrows, and cheese. Sophisticated, indeed! Advanced Persistent Threat! Probably a State Actor!
Selling the cheese inside the Netherlands might be difficult. Every wheel of cheese has its own serial number, and farms add their logos to it as well to indicate where it was made -- and to make the products easily traced. [...]
Italy's precious Parmesan cheese is a frequent target, including a daring nighttime heist of 25,000 pounds in 2018. [...] Wisconsin has its own issues with what one cheese seller dubbed "cheese pirates." In 2016, someone made off with more than 20,000 pounds of cheese, valued at more than $46,000, when an unmarked trailer was stolen from a parking lot in Oak Creek.

A former Microsoft software engineer from Ukraine has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing more than $10 million in store credit from Microsoft's online store. From 2016 to 2018, Volodymyr Kvashuk worked for Microsoft as a tester, placing mock online orders to make sure everything was working smoothly.
The #software automatically prevented shipment of physical products to testers like Kvashuk. But in a crucial oversight, it didn't block the purchase of virtual gift cards. So the 26-year-old Kvashuk discovered that he could use his test account to buy real store credit and then use the credit to buy real products.
If he hadn't been so greedy it would never been noticed. It's strange, that a bank should believe that you suddenly have 10 million flowing through your account.

The law firm said Bitcoin valued at $3.6bn had been "dissipated in its entirety", in a complaint sent to an elite South African #police unit, known as the Hawks.
The #investigation into where the bitcoins went had been hampered by the use of "various dark web tumblers and mixers", the law firm wrote.

"The transactions… were held up at the #Fed because the address used in one of the orders included the word 'Jupiter', which is also the name of a sanctioned Iranian shipping vessel," says Carolyn Maloney.
Just the mention of the word "Jupiter" was enough to set alarm bells ringing in the Fed's automated computer systems.
