FWIW.... I started this on Sept 12, 2001, as I sat in a daze trying to kick-start my ability to think and act, after the WTC attack.

Children and Violence

I updated this page through around 2013, but by then the mass shootings were happening routinely and I simply could not keep up. Which is a good indication that a new "norm", with desensitization and was underway. As others began years of PTSD...

20+ years on, again and again and again...
And "only in America!". Streaming live in a Congress near you.
On auto-replay, with no way out, it seems.

Combat Veteran Injured and Denied Care By Colorado Police
This past Friday, December 10th, Adam Kokesh, Libertarian activist and combat veteran was arrested in Saguache County Colorado. The peace activist’s arm was injured during the arrest by Center Police Department. For over twenty-four hours Kokesh sat in the county jail without any medical attention. After calls flooded into the jail demanding he be treated for his injuries, the Sherriff finally had him examined by a nurse. No x-rays were taken even though reports said that his arm may have been broken. Along with Kokesh, his two dogs were also taken into custody and forced to stay outside in the cold Colorado winter weather. At this point, the police report is still unavailable.
Kokesh was to appear before the court Monday, December 13th on charges related to psilocybin mushrooms, which the veteran uses to treat his PTSD. Refusing to bond out of jail until he receives his possessions and an apology from the police for his treatment he remains in confinement. Supporters were allowed to call into the proceedings and the judge was surprised that so many called in to listen. He is slated to come before the judge again today at 4 pm Eastern/ 2 pm Mountain.
It is wrong to take a veteran's medicine from them. Arresting someone who has harmed no one is equally as wrong, but to withhold medical care from anyone who has been arrested is beyond human decency. It is not too much to ask for an apology and the return of his possessions. This is what passes for justice in America.
To call into proceedings today, December 15th call 720 650 7664. The access code is 927174122
To contact the jail where Kokesh is being held call Saguache Co. Sheriff’s Department at 719 655 2544.
To contact the arresting officer Cristian Guaderrama contact Center Police at 719 754 2442.
To contact the animal shelter contact Monte Vista Animal Shelter at 719 852 3366.
Adam Kokesh is an Iraq war combat veteran. Through his involvement in the Marine Corps, he discovered as Smedly Butler said, “War is a Racket.” He is a published author and a long-time Libertarian activist. For years, he has toured the nation, spreading the ideas of liberty. In January 2017 he announced his candidacy for the Libertarian Party nomination for President of the United States, on the platform of a peaceful, orderly dissolution of the entire federal government. More recently he co-founded a 501c3 called Homefront Battle Buddies which facilitates alternative therapies for veterans, supports homeless veterans, and offers other veteran services. Following his ethical principles, Kokesh continues to spread the message of FREEDOM! and Localization through his show Adam Vs The Man.

A drug called trihexyphenidyl, approved as a treatment for Parkinson's disease, has been discovered to reduce PTSD flashbacks and nightmares.

The drug is thought to work by blocking the action of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine's primary function in the nervous system is to activate muscles, but it functions in the brain as well and throughout the nervous system.

In this case, the researchers believe that suppressing acetylcholine in a few particular spots in the brain, namely the basal forebrain, amygdala, and hippocampus, is what leads to the suppression of PTSD flashbacks and nightmares.

The basal forebrain, and in particular a part of the basal forebrain called the nucleus basalis of Meynert, is thought to have circuits that store traumatic memories, and these get activated by acetylcholine during PTSD-type flashbacks and nightmares. Note that this is different from the places in the brain where normal fear emotions are processed and normal memories are stored, which are the amygdalae and hippocampus.
