iOS 15: How to Set a Recovery Contact for Your Apple ID Account - Catch though is they will need an iOS device of their own running ‌iOS 15‌ or iPadOS 15 or later

Losing your Apple ID password can make your digital life a misery, because it can leave you locked out of the account that you use to manage your Apple devices, unable to access your iCloud data and manage your app and service subscriptions.

In this scenario, Apple can't just reset your password for you, especially if you have two-factor authentication enabled. Setting up a recovery is one alternative solution, however in such cases you can't change your password unless you have a trusted second device as well as the recovery key.

In an effort to make things easier, Apple in iOS 15 allows you to set up an account recovery contact that can help make sure you always have access to your account, even if you forget your ‌Apple ID‌ password or device passcode. Your recovery contact is someone who can verify your identity and help you regain access to your account and all of your data if you ever get locked out.

It really works as a sort of remote 2FA code for recovery. So this is not quite the same as Google's ability to unlock your account for nominated beneficiaries after you become incapacitated.

Hurricane Ida Aftermath: 'Leave, absolutely, if you can': Jefferson officials warn of grueling weeks ahead after Ida

... Jefferson President Cynthia Lee Sheng put the entire parish under a boil-water advisory after uprooted trees caused hundreds of water main breaks. And about 80 people had gone to PARD Playground in Harvey by Tuesday in search of bus rides to state shelters out of the Ida disaster zone, said Jefferson Parish Council member Byron Lee.

In New Orleans, Mayor LaToya Cantrell had staged buses for such a post-storm evacuation if necessary. But there the water was flowing, and food and water distribution sites had been set up on Tuesday. The mayor said the buses were not yet necessary. ...

Water and power are out throughout much of southeaster Louisiana. The city of New Orleans has some basic services, but even there power outages and boil-orders for water have been issued. Elsewhere, water may be out for days, power for weeks. Roads are impassible, and many residential, commercial, government, and industrial structures are severely damaged.

Recovery will, once again, be a long haul.

The good news:

  • The levees held.
  • There are only two reported deaths.
  • There's been no disorder.
  • Search, rescue, and recovery resources were positioned in advance and have entered into the area.

Spreading the good word from WeMove.eu:

Hi,

In a few days, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are going to vote on the European recovery plan. They are considering keeping fossil fuels out of it.

But lobbyists of fossil fuel industries are freaking out. They have upped their pressure on MEPs to get this money back and protect their outdated economic model which is destroying the planet.

I just told them to stand up for us in locking fossil fuel companies out of this recovery plan.

Send a tweet to MEPs to free us from fossil fuels: https://act.wemove.eu/campaigns/recovery?action=tweet

Send an email to MEPs to ban fossil fuel subsidies: https://act.wemove.eu/campaigns/recovery?action=mail

MEPs will decide in a few days how to vote, so it’s crucial that we contact them NOW. If we make this a huge issue on social media and in their inboxes, they’ll see that citizens are watching their votes closely.

Send a tweet to MEPs to ban fossil fuel subsidies in the recovery plan:

What to say to someone who's lost their home in the Australian bushfires

Actually really good advice for anyone experiencing loss and grief:

  • DO NOT question actions or preparations.

  • DO NOT offer unsolicited rationalisations or advice.

  • DO offer sympathy. "I"m so sorry" is almost always welcome.

  • DO offer help or support. "Is there anything I can do." Providing for basics (food, clothing, shelter) is almost always useful.

  • DO simply listen.

The Ring Model of support:

Complaints: flow out. Support flows in. Circles by closeness to the crisis.

"The person in the center ring can say anything she wants to anyone, anywhere. She can kvetch and complain and whine and moan and curse the heavens and say, "Life is unfair," and, "Why me?" That's the one payoff for being in the center ring. Everyone else can say those things too, but only to people in larger rings."
