[l] Ein Belgischer Abgeordneter kümmert sich mal um eine britische Touristenfalle. Und zwar gibt es in London Luftqualitätszonen, in denen man nur mit emissionsarmen Autos fahren darf. In der Innenstadt gilt die ULEZ, die Ultra Low Emission Zone.

p>Wenn man als Tourist aus der EU da reinfährt, muss man sich 10 Tage vorher (!) mit dem Auto auf einer obskuren Webseite registrieren, von der einem natürlich vorher niemand etwas sagt. Die Registrierung muss auch stattfinden, wenn das Auto geringe Emissionen hat und dort ohne Zuzahlung fahren darf. Wenn man das nicht macht, dann kriegt man teils heftige Strafen aufgebrummt, wir reden hier von 4- bis sogar 5-stelligen Summen in Pounds.

p>Stellt sich natürlich die Frage, woher die Briten wissen, wem welches Auto zuzuordnen ist. Das wollte dieser belgische Abgeordnete mal rausfinden, hat diverse Anfragen gestellt, die natürlich komplett ignoriert wurden von den Briten. Die wollten ihren Goldesel nicht verlieren, klar.

Das ganze ist wirklich eine perfekte Abzockmasche. Denn natürlich gibt es für Briten einen Rabatt:

Also hat er das mal im Parlament angesprochen, auf welcher Rechtsgrundlage die Briten hier Nummernschildzuordnung machen dürfen. Die Antwort des Verkehrsministers war knapp und klar: Dürfen sie nicht.
The minister for transport’s response was startling: post-Brexit, there’s no legal basis for sharing personal data with the UK for non-criminal offences such as Ulez breaches.
Ach. Ach was. Ja, äh, und nun? Na mal beim Datenschutz nachfragen. Der belgische Datenschützer meinte, er sei machtlos gegen eine UK-Firma. Und der britische Privacy Commissioner meinte, seine Aufgabe sei nur der Schutz der Daten von britischen Bürgern. Ja geil.
Doch dann passierte das hier:
The tale took a significant turn when I submitted a freedom of information request to Belgium’s vehicle licensing agency, the DIV. The findings were staggering: Euro Parking, denied direct access to Belgian driver details, had employed a local court bailiff who accessed the database more than 26,000 times and passed drivers’ names and addresses to Euro Parking.
Wait, WHAT?! Die haben einfach einen Sachbearbeiter bei einem Gericht bestochen! Wie krass ist DAS denn! Der hatte zwar technisch Zugriff aber durfte natürlich nicht für eine britische Firma nachgucken oder die Daten an die Briten weitergeben. Leider hatte der Abgeordnete keine rechtliche Handhabe, weil nur Betroffene klagen können. Also ist er nach London gefahren, ohne das Auto anzumelden. Ein paar Monate später kam dann die Rechnung und jetzt war er Betroffener und konnte in Belgien Akteneinsicht verlangen, wobei dann rauskam, dass in der Tat dieser Sachbearbeiter seine Daten nachgeguckt hatte.
Dem Sachbearbeiter haben sie dann den Zugriff gesperrt und strafrechtliche Ermittlungen angestoßen. Die belgische Botschaft hat TfL (die zuständige Behörde, Auftraggeber von Euro Parking) dann offiziell in Kenntnis gesetzt, dass ihr Auftragnehmer das Gesetz bricht, und britische Autofahrer wurden informiert, dass sie die Strafen nicht zahlen müssen.
Hat das gewirkt? Nein! Ging weiter mit den Knöllchen aus England!
Euro Parking has now found a new way to access Belgian motorists’ data, this time via an agent in Italy who has access to the EU licence plate sharing system, Eucaris. Again, the UK is no longer party to this and cannot legally receive the driver details for civil enforcement. The Italian authorities have been notified and the agent’s access barred. It’s become a relentless game of cat and mouse.
Euro Parking sind offensichtlich Triebtäter. Habituelle Kriminelle. Und die Behörden haben deren Vertrag nicht etwa gekündigt sondern der läuft jetzt halt mit anderen geschmierten Sachbearbeitern weiter. Wie krass.
Ein Glück, kann ich nur sagen, dass die aus der EU rausgeflogen sind!

What's not to like?
The #resistance to #London's #ULEZ (ultra-low emission zone) - introduced “to combat climate change” - goes on, with drivers resorting to ingenious ways to avoid paying this tax on driving in Greater London. One stuck a leaf onto his number plate though was sadly fined.

Until now, the #bladerunners were pretty much pissing into the wind, camera’s were going up faster than they were coming down. The new chain method has completely changed that. To replace those camera’s, that’ll take a 4 man crew about 3/4 days. They have to get the old post out of the ground, rewire everything, put a new pole in, redo all the paving etc. But, It takes 10 minutes to destroy them now. Plus, no noise, or sparks. Now, take out the real menace. The #5G Towers.

Conspiracy theories and disinformation mar UK local election
Conspiratorial narratives and rampant misinformation were used to influence the result of a recent local election in the United Kingdom, Euronews has learnt.
Ahead of the Uxbridge and South Ruislip byelection in July - which saw the Conservatives narrowly beat the opposition Labour Party by some 500 votes - there was a dramatic increase in false claims and conspiracy theories around ULEZ, a controversial environmental policy.

Typical of them (a) to do something expedient to gain political advantage and (b) use the worst parts of populism to further their political ambitions in a way that harms the poorest most.
It's a bit rich of the #Tories jumping on the bandwagon to abandon #ULEZ and for others to blame #London #Mayor #SadiqKhan for #Labour not quite winning the #Uxbridge #ByElection. It was #BorisJohnson's #government and #GrantShapps in particular who pushed the measure through (and one of the very few things I could agree with them on).
Some heartening news; the mayor of #London Sadiq Khan is trying to expand #ULEZ (ultra-low emission zone) from the current area of central London to the whole of Greater London. The population of Greater London by 2018 stats was 8.9 million. Four councils have said that they will not sign the agreement for the expansion, the councils are Bromley, Hillingdon, Harrow and Bexley.
Central London is mostly shops, businesses and very expensive housing that only the rich can afford but Greater London includes the housing of the not so rich, many of whom commute into the capital. I guess that they will not welcome the curtailing of their daily travelling routine and the #extra #costs that ULEZ will bring to already stretched household budgets.
