Beautiful weather, 1st in a long while, with blue sky, dry breeze... Surprised to find so few people; maybe locals have all fled &/or not that many tourists are heading to NYC. So, I sat and watched, me and bird or two who joined me. "Cool" & calm in Central Park.
As for the song, it has become a tradition but this year I missed a visit to "the park" on or close to "4th of July".

Something Different: Gray Catbird
What's most different for me, in encountering a bird I've never seen before, is seeing it in New York's Central Park!
I'm used to pigeons and starlings, robins and jays, plus occasional hawks, but while not uncommon, this was new for me.
Recently transitioning from southern swamps & marshes to urban jungle, this oasis with flowers & birds was a pleasant surprise with the diversity of birds just in this little garden (near Bethesda Fountain and Strawberry Fields).
Called a "catbird" due to its "meow" cry, I've now learned, it is a relative of the mockingbird, & will mimic other birds in addition to cats.
While trying to ID it, I came across this short vid with a sample of a Gray Catbird Singing
I'll keep an ear out in the future, although between people, horses, and music, it's not always so quiet.

Back from the swamps & jungle of the South, returned to the urban jungle.
First spring walk in Central Park, and of course I stopped at my 'power spot'.
Why that? It's a serene little cove of the lake, where I took a photo - this exact spot - decades ago, and it became a book cover.
A bit weird for me still, with such strong memories of first returning to the walk at the tail end of the height of the Pandemic.

Manhattan Walking Tour - 3/3
Uh oh, I thought I only took a few photos while short-cutting through the park, flowers mostly. Just walking towards the Upper West Side, no ponds or bridges along the way, mostly grass and horse(s) & buggies. Plus so many big tall buildings poking up into what was once sky. Walking. From the Southeast park entrance to Upper West Side. Came out near the very chic Hotel Des Artistes.
Because I can't title them easily "here", I'll just say that it's mostly views of 5th Avenue and Central Park South, from within the park, passing ball fields, flowers, horses and birds along the way, with a stop at the Central Park Carousel and Tavern on the Green.

Manhattan Walking Tour - 2/3
OK, Part 2. Part 1 was the lavish land of shopping and tourism, Upper East Side, 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue…
Continuing my walk from Upper East to Upper West I zig-zagged a bit (for shorter walk) but before entering Central Park and cutting across, I took a few shots along 57th Street, 5th Avenue, and then Central Park South - with its very ritzy hotels and shops, as well as the many “horse and buggies” lined up ready for park rides. So this is Part 2. Part 3 are some random shots (flowers, etc.) in the park.

It’s all a blur to me! Some of the photos too - all taken here with an iPhone, doing well with some images, a bit fuzzy with tele/macro.
