Roseate Spoonbills

At Myakka River State Park (FL) before heading South to the Everglades. A calm day today with a little time to sift through the phone and even a card or two from camera. The good stuff will likely be via YouTube (sorry, but ad-free at least) and on Flickr.

(I can't post lots more big images 'here' without deleting many things I submitted to groups, contests, etc.... just a hassle, though I tried, so....)

"Making lemonade when you have lemons" mode has been challenging and fun (creatively). Fewer wading birds all around South Florida this spring, but OK, I would like something new: Crocodiles! No. I found bugs. (Or they found me.) Some were photogenic,
Some were scary.

I tried various abstract things with the light and shape and colors around me. Hope to eke some of that out soon.

Today was butterfly day!

Atala Butterfly

I'd heard from a handful of folks as I took a walk which was recommended - very close to me, in a bird sanctuary. A unique butterfly which only grows on a rare shrub which grows here; interesting color and pattern (luminous blue/purple).
Today many caterpillars were on those bushes. Springtime for them too.

And then after a long time there I found a Butterfly House in the Wilderness, pretty cool...

So butterflies and abstract 'impressions' to come, well into when I return to NYC in time to avoid hurricanes, Love Bugs, and a trillion cicadas in June.

My camera and my feet are soooo dead!

Happy Good Friday/Easter!

I apologize I've not found (m)any new photos to post recently, as I've been repairing my camera, lens & self. But...
here's a souvenir from my last visit to a favorite Old Cypress swamp.

And... I've planned a trip to a new spot for me, one of the world's biggest swamps, and the furthest South in the U.S. By car, boat, and foot, hopefully some new things soon (April). Happy Holidays (and spring!)

"Turkish Delight"

Here is an album-length compilation I made almost exactly 40 years ago, maybe my first - and only - "international mix tape".

Notes: Circa early-mid 1980's. That's the music here.
I was traveling from London to Paris to Istanbul to Kismet...

I taped what I heard on local pop radio in Paris/London, on a "Walk Man", and as I travelled through Turkiye, I used "discos/bibliotheques" - little stores with recent popular 'records' (33 & 45rpm). And turntables and tape recorder. You'd say, "can I have x song and y song?" and they handed you a cassette. So years later (busy with school, life, etc.) I made an audio tape, during my music/recording/radio daze.... Must have played this 1000 times. To date, I'm guessing less than a dozen people have heard this.

It begins with some Euro-pop songs which were highly contagious, like "Da Da Da", and then gets into some spirited traditional/pop Turkish and mult-national music, some very rock, some comedic/theatrical (11:45). Anyway, here we are, going on 2024, 40 years since beginning the making of this. Should be high quality audio despite its age, so.... 🎧 🔉 Have a listen. Imagine yourself on a small boat on the Aegean, deep blue seas, music dancing and singing and swimming, and then to a seaside cafe beneath a disco... and camels.

A new "full length" #Fenfotos movie! (For me, long-form 4K is 30 seconds)

Cooter and Moorhen in the Rain

And - in theory - sound-track suggestion below. ("One way, or another...")
Will post again as a comment, but here's a short-link. ("How's the weather?")

The Birds

It sure felt like a scene from Hitchcock's film as the air grew thick with birds swooping down to line the branches of a big old tree. Crows. They sure make a racket like the egrets at the nearby rookery. This is right on the Gulf of Mexico, SW FL.

Quite a cacophony. (See 14 sec video)
https://youtu.be/kV50-DqMCWg

Even with all the squawking, the sound of a lone mourning dove is unmistakeable.

More nature vids on YouTube (and a few, yes, on NoGAFA Peertube)...

Perfect Spring Day at Bethesda Terrace (Central Park)

A short clip (30s) from Central Park on a gorgeous spring (2023) day...

Here you see & hear a singer performing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", while over her are the unique and stunning 19th-Century encaustic "Minton" tiles.

Article about these tiles: Central Park's Bethesda Terrace Arcade

Newlyweds and models pose for photographers nearby. Behind the arches is the famed "Angel of the Waters" Fountain.

Angel of the Waters

Reminded of a book whose cover my photograph appears on, "One Day's Perfect Weather" (Daniel Stern, 1999). On that is a little gazebo/boat stop on the Central Park Lake. You can see that image @ http://www.fenichel.com/cpboat.htm
