#Missouri executes Marcellus Williams despite prosecutors’ push to overturn conviction

“We must all question any system that would allow this to occur. The execution of an innocent person is the most extreme manifestation of Missouri’s obsession with ‘finality’ over truth, justice, and humanity, at any cost,” Tricia Rojo Bushnell, Williams’s attorney, said in a statement just before the execution. “Tonight, we all bear witness to Missouri’s grotesque exercise of state power. Let it not be in vain. This should never happen, and we must not let it continue.”

Ende Mai griff der seit Trumps Amtszeit noch extrem rechter besetzte #US #SupremeCourt weiter in die #Grundrechte von #Gefangenen ein. In einem Urteil gegen die Klage zweier Todestraktgefangener aus Arizona wg. ungenügender anwaltlicher Vertretung, welche in ihren ursprünglichen Verfahren zu ihrer Verurteilung führte, entschied das oberste US Gericht mit 6 zu 3 Stimmen, dass Urteile "endgültig" sein müssten, um so "strafende und abschreckende" Wirkung erzielen zu können. In einer Minderheitsmeinung nannte eine US Supreme Court Richterin diese Haltung "pervers" und unlogisch", wie der unabhängige Fernsehsender "Democracy Now" am 24.05. meldete.
