British citizenship of six million people could be jeopardised by Home Office plans

The behaviour of a dictatorship

Clause nine of the draft bill states that:

  • The government does not need to notify those deprived of their citizenship if it does not have their contact details, or if it is “for any other reason” not “reasonably practicable” to do so.
  • It also states that notice should not be given if it is “in the public interest” not to do so.

Campaigners say these new powers would make it harder for those who had been deprived of citizenship from appealing against the Home Office’s decision.

The term 'public interest' can be 'adjusted' as any authoritarian or dictatorial government wishes.

Human Rights Act could be scrapped by UK government

Sources suggest Dominic Raab was appointed as the new justice secretary because of his opposition to the Human Rights Act.

In video footage from 2009 – uncovered by Labour’s David Lammy – Raab says:

  • “I don’t support the Human Rights Act and I don’t believe in economic and social rights.”

Raab has a long track record of criticising the Human Rights Act (HRA), which he has described as “feckless” and “undemocratic”.

He championed a failed attempt to replace the Act in 2011, and criticised its “continental approach to rights”.

Do not pass the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill

This proposed legislation seeks to permanently limit civil liberties.

It will severely restrain the right of the public to protest while expanding police powers to take action against members of the GRT & Black communities disproportionately affected by new trespass laws and stop and search tactics.
