My Solar Exploits
Not a lot to report. Had a multi-day overcast and snow and the batteries bottomed out and the system automatically switched to grid power and started charging the batteries. The confusing thing is that it made the switch at a different point and in a different manner than the first time. No big deal, but will need to figure out why and maybe adjust some parameters.
This bottoming out puts a small glitch in my hopes of running a full month just from Solar/Batteries but still hoping to see a significant difference in the monthly Xcel bill...should know in a couple of weeks.
Also moved my panels around in the backyard to hopefully better take advantage of the winter sun. Moved one set back against the rear fence where I can leave them at a more productive angle. We'll see.

Ich konnte ich einen Blick auf die Zukunft unserer Energieversorgung werfen. Man nehme ein stillgelegtes altes Kohlekraftwerk und baue dort einen riesigen Akkuspeicher aus fast 1.400 Elektroauto-Batterien ein. Durch den Standort in einem ehemaligen Kraftwerk, hat man schon mal keinen Stress mit der Anschlussleistung. Der Akkuspeicher kann nämlich 18 Mwh speichern und diese mit einer Leistung von 18 Megawatt auch wieder innerhalb 1 Std. abgeben.
Das nenn ich mal eine gelungene Transformation! Ich war für einen Videodreh zu Gast bei "The Mobility House" die das Kraftwerk in Werdohl Elverlingsen im Sauerland zusammen mit dem Energieversorger Enervie betreiben. Aktuell sind dort ca. 1.400 Akkus aus dem alten Smart ForTwo in Betrieb. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich aber die Location. Da ist zum einen das riesige alte Kohlekraftwerk, welches nach und nach abgerissen wird. Dort auf dem Gelände in einer morbiden Maschinenhalle aus den 40er Jahren sind zwei neue Flachdachhallen integriert worden, in denen Hightech schlummert.
Der Akku-Speicher läuft als Regelenergie-System und zeigt, wohin die Reise mit Second Life Batterien hingehen wird. Kleiner Fun Fact für alle Akku-Zweifler: Seit Bestehen des Akkuspeichers 2018, ist kein Kapazitätsverlust der eingebauten Akkus festzustellen!
Im Video erfahrt ihr auch mehr über das neuste Produkt "eyond", welches The Mobility House gerade als revolutionäre Ladelösung gestartet hat - in dem nämlich euer E-Auto Akku zu einem Teil des Energienetzes wird. Ihr dürft sehr gespannt sein.

Did I wish to proceed?? I was flabbergasted and couldn’t really find my words."
John said he pressed representatives of #Tesla on whether he or Rob were at fault for the damage, to which he claims he was told that it was a weather issue. He added: "They said that the battery is effectively submerged in water. How can that be our fault?
"After finally getting to speak to a manager, he told me it had water in it due to the fact the weather in Scotland has been so bad. That was the issue. They said it’s not necessarily my fault but it’s not Tesla’s to pay under warranty. He reminded me there was a yellow weather warning in some parts of Scotland.
"I pushed him on this and said I've never heard or something like this happening. He said it can happen with Range Rovers and Mercs but I'm just not buying it. To date, it's been a disaster of a service and the stress and worry of this is excruciating.
"I said to the manager, ‘so, my understanding is, Teslas are unfit for purpose in Scotland?.” I’ve been driving for 30 years and this is my most premium car to date and this is what it does when Edinburgh’s roads get puddles or a little wet!"

If you think why didn't he pull the handbrake, then you've never been in a modern electric car. Everything works via software, including the handbrake. There are no more mechanical controls. Since we all know how badly modern #software is developed and tested, as this example impressively shows, the #question remains why there is no #emergency switch that disconnects the #battery from the #engine?
