Swimming in the Electron Lake, tonight... a hypnotic #electronic session inspired by the late '80s Aceeed era - which I fondly remember from when back then I was still living in #Europe - mixed in with a bit of '70s #psychedelic, #mystic #esoterica.

Microfreaktransactions. - #FloydSteinberg

Got to make some #music from time to time! Here's a " #jam" using the #microfreak @VolcaNiced sent in change for one of my #synths. #QY70 is doing the sequencing here in pattern mode while also playing #drums, #brass and #bass, #JD-08 is for pad and that "chiming" #sound, while the #Freak is used for soloing. I''m editing parameters on the QY70 "live" here and change #patterns with the left hand while playing some notes with the right hand. Not too complicated but needed some rehearsing anyway.

Bill Bruford's Earthworks - Footloose And Fancy Free (Teatro Opera, Buenos Aires, 28th Sept 2002)

This is at the end of a long sweaty evening in front of a great Buenos Aires crowd. South America generally, but particularly Chile and Argentina, have always shown massive appreciation for my stuff, and they don't fuss about the 'Is it rock, is it jazz?' business, so it's all very relaxing. When I was in Crimson in '95, we lived and rehearsed the music for 'Thrak' in this city for a while before doing a run of half a dozen shows in town, so we know each other pretty well.

This tune 'Footloose and Fancy Free' became bit of a signature theme for the band, something like 'Hell's Bells' did for my late 70s band Bruford. Although I've played it a lot, it was often with different personnel in different ensembles, so the (saxophonist) Tim Garland's version here is going to sound quite different from the (saxophonist) Patrick Clahar's reading, or the Earthworks Underground 9-piece version, or the original studio recording, for example. It's one of those pieces you can bring a lot of yourself too. And if you can't think of anything to bring, or you're having an off-night - oh, it happens...! - it's going to work anyway.

Thanks, Buenos Aires, for making this a really memorable evening!

Down Down Down, by Le Muffe

Five years after their previous album, the furious and iconoclastic energy of Le Muffe is finally back! Since 2011 the powerful #Italian trio has been playing a highly inflammable mix of #garage, #beat and #punk.

The band’s new effort is out now: "Down, Down, Down", their third official LP, confirms their style through 10 new #songs in which you can find the essential elements that define Le Muffe’s peculiar #sound. First of all, there is a #musical background which is immediately recognizable but at the same time it’s so unusual because it tends to escape the genre’s stereotypes by finding its own original way within the garage, beat and punk scene!

In addition to that, there is the total absence of the guitar, with the central musical role played by the omnipresent acid #organ, plus a pulsing nervous #bass, and pounding aggressive #drums. This exciting musical mixture supports unconventional, self-mocking and socially pungent lyrics, declaimed (mainly in Italian, but not only) by Ol Pipa with his peculiar cavernous voice.

Create looping beats using Hydrogen, an open source drum machine

Much of today’s music features the exacting work of a drum machine. The term might make you think of a drum set with mechanical levers and cranks armed with drumsticks, but all it actually refers to is a synthesizer programmed to play drum sounds.
The excellent LMMS application contains a drum machine, and there’s the drumkv1 plugin for DAWs like Ardour, Qtractor, and Rosegarden. But there’s also the dedicated Hydrogen drum machine that has just one job, which it does very well, and has done for the past 20 years: be a great, fully-featured, and open source drum machine.

The term might make you think of a drum set with mechanical levers and cranks armed with drumsticks, but all it actually refers to is a synthesizer programmed to play drum sounds. A good drum machine programmer (often also a drummer) can make a drum machine sound either hyper-robotic (if that’s the sound the producer’s going for) or almost human, with nuance and swing.
