Georgia Supreme Court Reinstates 6-Week Abortion Ban

Georgia's Supreme Court reinstated the state's six-week abortion ban
Monday, one week after a lower court struck down the ban, ruling it
unconstitutional. Alice Wang from the Center for Reproductive Rights
said, "This ban has already killed multiple women, as the state's own
maternal mortality review committee found last month. Yet Attorney
General Carr rushed to court to reinstate this ban, ensuring more lives
will be lost."

A True Shock? Economist Jeffrey Sachs Reveals Secret at Heart of U.S.-Russian Relations

It seems that the interest in #peace is secondary. Greed for power and resources is more important. Therefore, there will be #war as long as the warmongers face no real resistance and are strong enough to stir up trouble.

Leading US diplomats, led by the great stateman-scholar George Kennan, warned at the time that the NATO enlargement would lead to disaster: “The view, bluntly stated, is that expanding #NATO would be the most fateful error of American policy in the entire post-cold-war era.” So, it has proved.

Here is not the place to revisit all of the foreign policy disasters that have resulted from US arrogance towards #Russia, but it suffices here to mention a brief and partial chronology of key events. In 1999, NATO bombed #Belgrade for 78 days with the goal of breaking #Serbia apart and giving rise to an independent #Kosovo, now home to a major NATO base in the #Balkans. In 2002, the US unilaterally withdrew from the #Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty over Russia’s strenuous objections. In 2003, the US and NATO allies repudiated the UN Security Council by going to war in #Iraq on false pretenses. In 2004, the US continued with NATO enlargement, this time to the Baltic States and countries in the Black Sea region (Bulgaria and Romania) and the Balkans. In 2008, over Russia’s urgent and strenuous objections, the US pledged to expand NATO to #Georgia and #Ukraine.

About War 08/08/08

Now Georgia has officially recognized that the war was started by Saakashvili, who was pushed into it by the Americans, namely the Cheney Gang.

If not for his attack on South Ossetia, it would still be an unrecognized state and Russian troops would not be stationed there.

In fact, thanks to Saakashvili, South Ossetia and Abkhazia finally separated from Georgia and from the point of view of Georgian nationalists, this is a betrayal of Georgian interests.

For the ukrainians, this war has not become a lesson.

They followed the same criminal path in 2014 in Donbas.

Most Georgians see Russia as enemy, survey shows

Most Georgian citizens consider Russia to be their country's main enemy, and this figure has increased compared to previous years, according to the Caucasus Barometer survey by the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC).

The Caucasus Barometer is an annual survey of socio-economic issues and political views conducted by the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC) in Armenia and Georgia.

According to the survey, 69% of respondents consider Russia to be Georgia's main enemy. In a similar study in 2021, the number was 66%; in 2019, 49%; in 2017, 40%; and in 2012, 35%.

The U.S. is now proposing stringent visa #restrictions targeting individuals in the Georgian government and their families, despite Georgia being considered a strategic #partner. That is only for starters, considering the Georgia is unwilling to toe-the-line as a US-styled banana republic.

In fact, from a Georgian perspective, they are pushing us to #Russia and to the East, as one retired school teacher explained. “It is becoming a life and death struggle. Yes, it seems that the situation is getting very interesting. Can you imagine 5–6 years ago if someone could predict what is happening now?”

Apparently the #US is getting very desperate, to have to revert to such low-level blackmail and arm-twisting tactics, of all things, to impose Visa sanctions over domestic transparency of foreign funding legislation. Tensions have growing between the United States and Georgia, and this is just the latest, due to the Georgian governments’ unwillingness to back down on what it deems to be essential legislation.

The latest move by the US to impose Visa restrictions on Georgian government officials and their families is a response to Georgia’s new “foreign influence” law, which the U.S. perceives, quite unreasonably, as a threat to democracy and freedom of expression. It is also reviewing its relationship with Georgia, whatever that means!

Officially known as the Transparency of Foreign Influence Act, the bill would require NGOs, media outlets, and individuals receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad, to register as entities “promoting the interests of a foreign power” and to disclose their donors. Failure to comply would be punishable by a fine of up to $9,500.The repeal of the veto on Tuesday also sparked immediate reaction in Brussels, which warned that it “will negatively impact Georgia’s EU path.” “The EU and its Member States are considering all options to react to these developments,” Brussels stated, without naming any specific steps it might take. The bloc “deeply regrets that the Georgian Parliament decided to override the President’s veto,” it added, urging Georgian authorities to “reverse this trend.”

Last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Washington would impose visa restrictions on those “undermining democracy in Georgia, as well as their family members.” He was referring to politicians backing the controversial bill.

The double side of EU, openly promoting the idea of being the beacon of transparency and democracy yet fights tooth and nail to hinder this in Georgia.

Why is it problematic to know who the foreign interests are which funds the nations media outlets, individuals and NGOs, why would EU and US be opposed to that? EU/US don't like unknown foreign funding in their own respective nations, double standard? or are they trying to hide how they promote their influence/manipulation and meddling in other states affairs? And why is such a law deemed "undemocratic" by the US/EU?

A dark political atmosphere is swirling over the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, and grows more ominous by the day. Prime Minister Irakli #Kobakhidze has been told by an #EU commissioner he will suffer the fate of Robert #Fico, the Slovakian leader still fighting for his life after an assassination attempt by a #Ukraine proxy war ultra. #US lawmakers are moving to sanction members of the ruling Georgian Dream party, and in parliament on May 14, opposition MP Tako Charkviani threatened: “Believe me, there will be a color revolution in #Georgia.”

UN urges Georgia to withdraw 'foreign influence' bill

The controversial bill has attracted wide criticism and led to daily protests in the capital, Tbilisi. The EU said the move could hurt Georgia's prospects of one day joining the 27-member bloc.

the United Nations, European Union and United States have condemned Georgia's attempt to pass a "foreign influence" law that critics say would muzzle independent media and rights groups.

"I urge Georgian authorities to withdraw this draft law, and to engage in dialogue, including with civil society and media organizations," UN rights chief Volker Türk said on Thursday.

"Labeling NGOs and media outlets receiving foreign funding as 'organizations acting in the interest of a foreign power' poses serious threats to the rights to freedom of expression and association."

A spokesperson for France's Foreign Ministry said the bill "runs counter to the values on which the European Union is founded and to which the Georgian people have shown their deep attachment."

The GMF is an ostensibly non-partisan American public policy think tank that claims to promote “cooperation and understanding between North America and the European Union.” But lately it seems to be favoring confrontation and conflict over dialogue and peace. This point was driven home at the recently convened Brussels Forum (a GMF-sponsored event). There, Laura Thornton, who oversees the GMF Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD), through which GMF “tracks and analyzes malign internal and external influence operations that target democracies worldwide and builds strategies to thwart them,” declared that, “The time for democracy to go on the offensive has long passed. This is going to require democracies to ally, the way autocracies do. This is going to require disruption and risk taking.”
