MIT Scientists create a living medical device that is made from human cells that secrete insulin, and may replace injections someday

Bild/Foto
MIT scientists might be one step closer to making insulin injections a thing of the past. In a new study this week, they’ve shown that it’s possible to implant a medical device inside mice that produces its own supply of insulin for up to a month. More research will be needed before this technology would be widely available to use in humans, however.

The team’s device features a membrane that creates oxygen by splitting apart nearby water molecules—in theory, allowing for an indefinite supply of oxygen. The device can also be powered wirelessly with a small amount of voltage, which might only require a small patch to be worn on the skin.

Pretty good article here, especially the last part about thousands of chemicals used in our foods that were "approved" but not by the FDA. And about the FDA's policy of never repeating a review. Many chemicals that were approved by the FDA were approved 50 years ago. Despite new evidence of problems, they won't review anything they've previously reviewed.

California Senate Committee on Health approves first-in-the-nation food chemical bill.

The five chemicals to be banned have been linked to many health risks including cancer, nervous system damage and hyperactivity.

WHO has recorded 974 attacks against health care in Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion

Out of 974 recorded attacks, 873 impacted medical facilities. The attacks have killed at least 101 people and injured 136 others since Feb. 24, 2022.

Russia’s missile strike on a medical clinic in Dnipro on May 26 is not yet included in the data as it takes time for the WHO to verify all attacks
