Stopping support for Ukraine's self-defence will lead to more war crimes – German Foreign Minister

After inviting #Russia to the international Peace Summit, "Putin sent his response by bombing a children's hospital".

She also noted that Russia has repeatedly "been toying with the inviolability of the borders of the Baltic States and Poland"

If a permanent member of the UN Security Council is allowed to conquer and destroy its smaller neighbour, the very essence of this [UN] Charter is under attack

Russia has destroyed all thermal power plants, nearly all hydroelectric capacity in Ukraine ahead of winter

According to an International Energy Agency (IEA) report, Ukraine's electricity shortage could reach 6 gigawatts this winter as a result of the attacks, which is about one-third of the expected peak demand. This summer, the power shortage was 2.5 GW when Kyiv was already experiencing long blackouts.

"This is how Putin is preparing for winter — hoping to torment millions, millions of Ukrainians… Ordinary families — women, children… Ordinary towns, ordinary villages," Zelensky said.

Putin wants to leave them in the dark and cold this winter, forcing #Ukraine to suffer and surrender. Just imagine, please, your country with 80 percent of its energy system gone

IMF's trip to Moscow is effectively enabling Russia's war against Ukraine

#RussiaGate?

You probably haven't heard that the #InternationalMonetaryFund (IMF) is preparing to send a mission to Russia.

That’s because top #IMF officials have been trying to draw as little public attention to their plans as possible – which ought to tell you something. Fund officials themselves know that this is a scandal in the making.

Russian troops apparently kill surrendering Ukrainian soldiers near Pokrovsk, CNN reports

Russian forces seem to have gunned down a group of #surrendering Ukrainian soldiers near Pokrovsk in late August, CNN reported on Sept. 6, publishing an exclusive video.

This comes as another apparent case of Russia summarily executing Ukrainian prisoners of war (POW) or surrendering soldiers, which could amount to war crimes.

Drone footage published by CNN shows three #UkrainianSoldiers surrendering after their trench was overrun. As they walk out, kneel down, and place their hands on their heads, they seem to be gunned down as they fall to the ground.

Russia has not provided a #humanitarian #corridor from Kursk

Russia has not provided a humanitarian corridor for its citizens to leave Kursk more than three weeks after Ukraine began its incursion into the region

We talk a lot with the locals. Even show them photos of destroyed Ukrainian cities, show films about the crimes committed by the Russians at the beginning of the war.

They have different opinions. But for the most part they don't understand. They say that they want peace, that it is beyond politics, that everything stops or that they are given a corridor - the opportunity to leave the combat zone, which Russia does not provide,

'Would you blame Hungarians for Soviet invasion?' - Von der Leyen criticizes those who 'muddy the waters' on Ukraine

"They blame the war not on the invader but on the #invaded. Not on (Vladimir) Putin's lust for power, but on Ukraine's thirst for freedom," von der Leyen said at the Globsec conference in Prague, attended by the Kyiv Independent.

"So I want to ask them: would you ever blame the Hungarians for the Soviet #invasion of 1956? Would you ever blame the Czechs for the #Soviet oppression of 1968?"

"The #Kremlin's behavior was #evil and atrocious back then, and it is evil and atrocious today," the #EU official said.

Von der Leyen also criticized Europe's pre-2022 "illusion" that greater economic integration with Russia would lead to more stability.

Silent killer: Russia boosts grinding Donbas advance with chemical warfare

Russia has increasingly deployed chemical agents in its grand offensive to occupy the last cities in the Donbas region under Ukrainian control. The suffocation tactic is to take out entrenched personnel and dampen the morale of Ukrainian soldiers who – severely outmanned and outgunned – have been withdrawing village by village in the east for nearly a year.

Gasping for air from a trench in eastern #Ukraine, an infantryman was ready for the worst when a suffocating white smoke spread into his position.

A #Russian drone had just dropped a gas grenade into the trench, an internationally banned practice in warfare used to suffocate Ukrainian soldiers hiding inside. Forced out in the open, the Ukrainians immediately became vulnerable targets for Russian drones and artillery.

In #Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a 69-year-old man had been killed as a result of the attack.

In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, a man had been killed when a private #residence was struck.

Israel v. Telegram : According to this article in #Haaretz, which was published last week, #Israel has had limited success in removing content from #Telegram compared to other platforms like #Facebook and #TikTok.

While #Telegaram has become a major platform for disseminating leaked information and Hamas propaganda, Israeli officials have attempted to contact it's founder, Pavel Durov, to address the issue of Hamas-related content on the platform. While Telegram didn't remove all the content, it did block access to some Hamas channels from within Israel.

Israel has managed to remove several Telegram channels that were publishing stolen information from the Ministry of Justice. However, the effectiveness of these efforts is limited, as hackers find new ways to distribute the information.

The article mentions that Israel's approach differs from Western countries, which tend to focus on prosecuting leakers rather than preventing the spread of leaked information.
Israel's efforts to remove content from Telegram and other platforms are seen as partially successful but face challenges, especially with the use of decentralized networks and servers based in non-cooperative countries like Russia.

Ukrainian forces storm penal colony in #Kursk Oblast where Ukrainian prisoners were held

The seizure of the penal colony will be an important step in documenting war crimes committed by Russia against prisoners of war, human rights activists said.

Subsequently, the organization found that female prisoners were also taken to the women's penal colony in Malaya Loknya, which is designed to hold over 200 people. In the fall of 2022, more than 50 captured military and civilian women were held there, the Media Initiative for Human Rights said.

The #HumanRights organization documented the testimonies of several prisoners held in this colony. They mentioned that physical force and humiliation were used against them, which led to significant health problems.
