realized it was an eel coming through his neck.” Mr Davis stated, “I could see his eyes and he was still alive.”

“The wildlife refuge stated they’d never seen anything like that.” It’s a morbid photograph.”

According to Martin Fowlie, an RSPB expert, snake eels have been observed trying to burrow out of fish in the past “in order to avoid being eaten.”

“But I’ve never seen visuals like this involving a bird before,” he said.

‘I’m shocked the heron is still flying with such a large hole in it. However, I believe the bird will not survive such an injury.” '

### Tricolor Strut

A confluence of funny ways the universe of thoughts and sounds collide.
The photograph (#myphoto) is from my recent visit to Myakka River State Park.

I posted some sad stories of the devastation wrought by the destruction of the weir and then Hurricane Ian.
Trees, river, torn away. My favorite birds mostly gone, save the wonderful limpkin. And the gators in their shrunken river.

I'm now sifting through images from camera via card via computer, and here's one I forgot about, another happy bit of nature recovering from devastation, especially in springtime, nesting season. This is a tricolor heron seeming to be doing well, "doing the tricolor strut".

Well, there aren't many "Tricolor Heron Strut"s around, but somehow out of my dim & distance past, I recalled this song, still quite tasty. Wow. Seafood, too. Have a listen to the great #JormaKaukonen and #JackCasady #legends Good week.

Yellow-crowned Night Heron

Sanibel Island, FL (John N "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Reserve)

This is a bird I've rarely seen and it was tough to ID - with yellow legs and a distinctly different beak than most herons. (More like a toucan!) Plus the uniquely patterned feathers and "face mask" (perfect for the times?!)

Alpha (fe)male - Here is an unusual heron atop a crowded tree in a rookery, surrounded by egrets and cormorants. I'd say from his/her prime location and size - look at that wing span! - this may be the Alpha leader of the rookery. With suitable 'crown"

I have never seen a Florida Heron with a black, mane-like tuft of "hair" like this, nothing like it I know of aside from some African storks. I've checked with Merlin, Audubon, Mr. Internet, etc.... Even Google Image searched. Nothing. Well, I have a photo. And curiosity.

Do you have the answer or want a challenge?
I think it's their seasonal leader/guru, dressed for ceremony & season, but could be wrong. 😉 🐣 Nice to see the activity. 🦅

Spring is in the air, it seems, after some cool days.

The egrets are displaying aigrettes (to attract mates), some youngster learning to fly (flapping wings), and a few have built beautiful nests to tempt a partner. Meanwhile, a Great Blue Heron has assumed the throne atop the rookery. This is a first sample, with many to sift through and choose, then post (after camera>computer etc.) .

More to come. Meanwhile, a flock of birds is year-round nesting at my own site: http://www.fenichel.com/birds
