Ukraine destroys Russian train with 40 fuel tanks in Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The aim of the operation was to disrupt a supply line used to transport #fuel from #Crimea to #Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

The operation was carried out jointly by the the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Ukrainian army's #Tavria Group, the Military Intelligence Agency (HUR), and the Special Operations Forces (SSO).

The operation began with the #SBU organizing a sabotage mission to destroy railroad tracks near the village of #Oleksiivka in the #Bilmak district, the source said.

As the train carrying 40 fuel tanks was moving along the tracks, an explosion derailed the train, and some of the tanks ignited, according to the source.

Using #HIMARS rockets, the Ukrainian forces targeted the locomotive and the outermost cars, preventing #Russian forces from ripping apart the tanks and saving some of the fuel.

The operation resulted in the complete destruction of the locomotive and 40 fuel tanks, effectively crippling key #SupplyLine to Russian forces in the region and rendering the targeted rail line inoperable, the source said.

Ukrainian military intelligence denies involvement in drone explosion at #Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

"The aggressor state once again endangers the nuclear facility," Yusov said. "Russian strikes, in particular false flag strikes, on the territory of the Ukrainian #nuclear power plant, as well as the deployment of troops and weapons there and mining of ZNPP facilities, have long been a well-known and constant criminal practice."

"Russia should withdraw troops from all #ZNPP facilities, only this will allow to restore compliance with all necessary international norms and control over an important nuclear energy facility."

Russia reducing number of personnel at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant – reports

Russia is gradually reducing the number of personnel at the occupied #Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station in southern Ukraine, Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said on Friday.

“According to the latest data, the occupation contingent is gradually leaving the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” the main directorate of intelligence at the defence ministry (GUR) said on the Telegram messaging app.

#GUR said that among the first to leave the nuclear power station were three employees of Russian state nuclear firm Rosatom who had been “in charge of the Russians’ activities”, Reuters reports.

It said Ukrainian employees who had signed a contract with Rosatom had also been advised to depart. Employees should leave by 5 July, it said, and had been told to preferably head for the Crimea peninsula, which Russia illegally seized from Ukraine in 2014.

GUR said the number of military patrols was also gradually decreasing on the plant’s vast territory and in the nearby city of Enerhodar, and that personnel remaining at the plant had been told to blame Ukraine “in case of any emergency situations”.

Russian authorities declined to comment on the claims when approached by #Reuters.

ISW: Russia threatens Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant sabotage

Russia may be signaling a willingness to sabotage the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to dissuade Ukrainian forces from conducting a counteroffensive in the area, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) wrote.

The experts point out that a radioactive leak would be difficult to control and could potentially impact Russian forces more than the Ukrainian ones, depending on given conditions at the time.

They also note that a radiological terror attack would render many areas in occupied southern Ukraine "uninhabitable and ungovernable," degrading Russia's hold over them.

The ISW reminded that Moscow has repeatedly used nuclear threats related to the Zaporizhzhia plant to constrain Ukraine's military actions and prevent further Western assistance to Kyiv

IAEA Chief: Situation at Zaporizhzhia NP Plant Dangerous

On Tuesday, the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cautioned that the nuclear safety and security status at the #Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant situated in Ukraine is extremely fragile and dangerous.

"Military activities continue in the region and may well increase very considerably in the near future," #IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said in a UN Security Council briefing.

According Grossi, despite being in a temporary shut-down is not sustainable, the plant has been operating with a notably diminished workforce,

Please, be aware that the following might cause emotional reactions.

Towns were taken over by the Russian military without any fighting, there were no mass demonstrations by residents, and on the contrary, former citizens of #Ukraine began to acquire Russian citizenship en masse. This was radically different from what was happening, for example, in another Russian-speaking region of eastern Ukraine, the Kharkov region.

The answer lies in the manner in which the Kiev regime had governed this Russian-speaking area over the past decade.>In the late Soviet period, the #Zaporizhzhia region was one of Ukraine’s leading agrarian and industrial zone, with industry concentrated in the regional center, the city of Zaporizhzhia and several other towns. The rest of the region was a typical agrarian area.

The main goal of the corrupt Ukrainian authorities was to get rid of inhabitants of the rural part of the region, consolidate large volumes of highly fertile and irrigated agricultural land, and then sell or lease it to Western corporations, either directly or through Ukrainian oligarchs.

U.N. Nuclear Chief: Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Plant Is ‘Out of Control,’ Urges Inspections

#Russia #UkraineWar #UN #IAEA
Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said in an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press that the situation is getting more perilous every day at the #Zaporizhzhia plant in the southeastern city of #Enerhodar, which Russian troops seized in early March, soon after their Feb. 24. invasion of #Ukraine.

“Every principle of nuclear safety has been violated” at the plant, he said. “What is at stake is extremely serious and extremely grave and dangerous.”

Grossi cited many violations of the plant’s safety, adding that it is “in a place where active war is ongoing,” near Russian-controlled territory.

olladij@diaspora.permutationsofchaos.com

The fact that the Ukrainian forces had to abandon those territories in the first place was the result of a miscalculation. They had been taken by Russian forces in the early days of the invasion. According to Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National #Security and Defense Council of #Ukraine, as he noted in a Liga.net article on June 18, Ukraine had expected the main Russian attack to come from the territory of the self-proclaimed #DNR and #LNR and consequently concentrated its most combat-ready units there.
This blunder left the south relatively unprotected for an invasion from #Crimea, which enabled the rapid Russian advance toward #Mariupol and the occupation of #Kherson and #Zaporizhzhia regions. It also created the threat of #Mykolaiv and #Odesa being occupied, while for some time part of the Russian strategy seemed to be to take the entire Black Sea coast of Ukraine, in effect creating a land bridge from Russia all the way to #Transnistria in #Moldova.
Though that has not been achieved and is unlikely to be achievable in light of the successful Ukrainian counteroffensive, what Russia did achieve after the fall of Mariupol is a land corridor to Crimea, which was among #Moscow’s key strategic objectives from the beginning.
