Still missing/craving SNL and Colbert/Meyers/Kimmel for late-night parody, when we could really use some. But...

What could be better than a #Beatles blast from #RandyRainbow, in the key of #TrumpVirus.... (that's "Me Sharp")

Donald in the John With Boxes 🎶

Not at all to be confused with "Lucy in the Sky" of course.... :))

Sir Paul McCartney revealed Tuesday that he plans to use AI #technology to “extricate” John Lennon’s voice from a previously unheard track to create “the #final #Beatles record,” reports the BBC.

“We just finished it up and it’ll be released this year,” McCartney, 80, told the outlet.

The musician said that in order to use Lennon’s voice, he turned to “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson for help.

“He [Jackson] was able to extricate John’s voice from a ropey little bit of cassette that had John’s voice and a piano,” explained McCartney. “He could separate them with AI — he could tell the machine, ‘That’s the voice, that’s the guitar, lose the guitar.’ And he did that, so it has great uses.”

Paul McCartney Says a New Beatles Record Is Coming—with AI John Lennon

*

Just when you think 2023 couldn’t get any weirder, John Lennon rises from the dead. Well, sort of—with the help of AI, his vocals have been added to a new Beatles song.

In a recent interview with BBC, Paul McCartney said the technology was used to “extricate” Lennon’s voice from old recording demos. In other words, McCartney and co. Lennon’s vocals from an unreleased track, cleaned it up, and used it to complete a new song. According to McCartney, the band recently finished the process. “It’ll be released this year,” he said.

The song’s title has not been revealed, but Deadline reports that fans think it pulls from Lennon’s 1978 track, “Now and Then.” It’s the last song he recorded before his death in 1980. Years later, Lennon's former wife, Yoko Ono, provided his bandmates with all of he artist's final demos for The Beatles Anthology project in 1995. Two of his songs, “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love” were included, but “Now and Then” was never released due to poor sound quality.

An interesting perspective on the #Beatles and their role in society, given in an interview with the late #DickGregory, who was once good friends with #JohnLennon.

From approximately 6:30 onwards, but the whole #interview (as was anything by this splendid man) is well worth listening to. He recalls a conversation he once had with John Lennnon:

"Who are you? Do you really know #who you are?"

"No, but why do you ask?"

"A poor little ignorant redneck cracker like you out of that part of Britain ain't never made it big. How'd you do it?"

"He said 'Our whole thing was CIA and British Intelligence.' He said 'All our songs was to turn white children onto drugs'"

"He said 'You know how high you got to be to see a yellow submarine? Hey Jude - that's about heroin. LSD - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'"

"And when they came over here for the Ed Sullivan Show and 200,000 white women was waiting'. All that was a trick. All that was a game."

This is sad, and probably all true.
I was watching the movie almost famous last night and I just couldn't watch it.
I just kept seeing this whole shtick.
Rock and roll was a con job.
Effing sad.
Disastrous and sad

A lunchtime diversion - late 60's/early 70's - FM Radio transitions and segues - A baker's 1/2 Dozen Faves 🎶

It began with the posting of a Fat Mattress (1969) song, which rang a bell. Fat Mattress has a tiny niche-of-honor in my memories and in music history. To me it was sort of a cross between early Jethro Tull (This Was) and Traffic, with the backbone of Noel Redding here.

The band - not coincidentally?! - also featured Chris Wood (Traffic) on the track "All Night Drinker", which makes perfect sense as another foggy memory is seeing Chris Wood fall off the stage, drunken... Oh, and Martin Barre (Tull) was in the band briefly, too.

This said, seeing the image of the album (which I have on vinyl, without the song which was posted - UK version) - set off many associations to the album and its context (1969).

And that brings me to an immediate short-list of tracks comprising 1/2 dozen of my most beloved songs for radio segues between or into/out of sets.

From the 1969 Fat Mattress album (in my 3rd hand as I type)...

"I saw a bird, flying in the sky... He looked at me, I wonder why..."

Pretty depressing actually, maybe reflecting Neil Redding's situation at the time, booted from Hendrix.
He doesn't even play the bass on this track (plays guitar).

"Context and Perspective!"

But before I forget, one more to add to this 'baker's 1/2 dozen' of 'easy listening' FM/LP fare, and favorite segues:
