#framework

Let me tell you that more source code always means more #vulnerability and is therefore always counterproductive for #security.

The #internet has become a bloated mess. Huge #JavaScript libraries, countless client-side queries and overly complex frontend frameworks are par for the course these days.

When popular website like The New York Times are multiple MB in size (nearly 50% of which is JavaScript!), you know there’s a problem. Why does any site need to be that huge? It’s #crazy.

But we can make a difference - all it takes is some #optimisation. Do you really need that extra piece of JavaScript? Does your #WordPress site need a #theme that adds lots of functionality you’re never going to use? Are those huge custom fonts really needed? Are your images optimised for the web?

Cult of the Dead Cow has released #Veilid: A secure peer-to-peer #network for apps that flips off the #surveillance economy

The idea being here that apps – #mobile, #desktop, #web, and headless – can find and talk to each other across the #internet privately and securely without having to go through centralized and often corporate-owned systems. Veilid provides code for app developers to drop into their #software so that their clients can join and communicate in a peer-to-peer #community.

My thoughts on framework after daily driving it for 2 years

Louis Rossmann talks a bit about daily driving his FrameWork laptop since 2 years.

He has some more or less valid nitpicks here and there, some which might actually be fixed in newer mainboard versions or maybe not. ;)

But overall .... he likes it ... and for very good reasons still..

(Nonetheless, i hoped for the bigger 16" version which is available soon. ;))

Why #Twitter Didn’t Go Down

The first big point that is keeping the caches running is that they are ran as #Aurora jobs on #Mesos. Aurora finds servers for applications to run on, Mesos aggregates all the servers together so Aurora knows about them. Aurora will also keep applications running after they are started. If we say a #cache #cluster needs 100 servers, it will do its best to keep 100 running. If a server completely breaks for some reason, Mesos will detect this, remove the #server from its aggregated pool, Aurora will now be informed that there are only 99 caches running and then know it needs to find a new server from Aurora to run on. It will automatically find one and bring the total back to 100. No person needs to get involved.
