Latvian-led coalition to arm Ukraine with 'thousands' of drones
Defense Minister Rustem Umverov said Riga would helm a drone coalition in support of Ukraine's military after talks with his Latvian counterpart Andris Spruds
The coalition aims to arm Ukraine with "thousands" of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The main goal is to do everything possible to ensure that as many of these drones as possible are also delivered to Ukraine
also acknowledged is the importance of drone warfare in Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression. President Volodymyr Zelensky promised on Dec. 19 that Ukraine would produce one million drones in 2024.

#Latvia has closed the second-to-last border checkpoint with #Belarus this week, claiming that illegal migrants are responsible for the necessity of this action.
One must wonder what exactly illegal migrants have to do with a border checkpoint, since I think we've all seen in the past that they seem to prefer not to enter the country legally.
This is perfectly normal, acceptable and sanctioned by the EU, unlike the Trump wall, you won't see people protesting against it or even politicians pretend that they are not approving and funding it.
It's for the safety of us, to protect us and to stop the "invasion".

European Values : It has been reported that medical institutions in Latvia are now required to check the residency status of potential patients before appointments can be scheduled to seek medical assistance.
This order disproportionately effects the Russian population within Latvia, many of whom are elderly and still without a renewed permit. If their permit is invalid, or has been canceled, they must either stop seeking appointments with health professionals, or pay a fine of 50 euros (the cost of a week's groceries in places like Riga).
Although the Latvian government has stated that in the events where urgent medical attention is necessary, they will offer assistance regardless, this is another step in a very wrong direction for Russo-Latvian relations and does not even account for those who are mentally and physically terminally ill.

Up to 6,000 Russian citizens in #Latvia are expected to receive official notices next month asking them to leave the country, according to Ingmārs Līdaka, head of parliament's Committee on Citizenship, Migration and Public Mobilization.
“There are 5,000 to 6,000 of them. They are people who have not shown any desire, either to take the exam or to obtain a temporary residence permit. They are silent. According to current legislation, the Citizenship and Migration Office simply has to send them a request to leave the country within three months," he said.

Leaked Document Appears to Show NATO Special Operations Forces are in Ukraine
The document says just under 100 troops from the US, Britain, France, and Latvia are in Ukraine
A trove of leaked documents detailing plans about Ukraine’s spring military offensive and circulating online reportedly imply that French soldiers are present on the battlefield in Ukraine. According to the Guardian, “one slide suggested that a small contingent of less than a hundred special operations personnel from NATO members France, America, Britain and Latvia were already active in Ukraine.”
The material reportedly also includes information on Ukraine’s readiness and training capabilities as well as death tolls.
It’s unclear who originally obtained and leaked the documents, and the extent to which they may have been altered. It could also be “a Russian disinformation operation,” U.S. officials said.
“The documents cited do not come from the French military. We do not comment on documents whose source is uncertain,” Lecornu’s team also told Le Monde.

#Finland plans to fence 200 kilometres of its 1,300-kilometre border with Russia at a cost of around 380 million euros (around $400 million).
The fence will be over three metres (10 feet) tall with barbed wire at the top, with particularly sensitive areas equipped with night vision cameras, lights and loudspeakers.
At present, Finland's borders are secured primarily by light wooden fences, mainly designed to stop livestock from wandering to the wrong side.
Fearing that Moscow could use migrants to exert political pressure on Helsinki, NATO candidate Finland in July passed new amendments to its Border Guard Act to facilitate the erection of sturdier fences.
Although the Finland-Russia border has "worked well" in the past, Brigadier General Jari Tolppanen told AFP in November that the war in Ukraine had changed the security situation "fundamentally".
He said the border fence was "indispensable" to stop large-scale illegal entries from Russian territory.
Finland saw an influx of Russians in September after President Vladimir Putin ordered the mobilisation of reservists to fight in Ukraine.
