#Romania scrambles F-16s amid Russian drone strikes on Odesa Oblast

Turkish F-16 fighter jets stationed in Romania were scrambled after Russian drone strikes on Odesa Oblast in the early morning of Feb. 10, Romania's Defense Ministry said.

Romania's Defense Ministry said that jets stationed at an airbase near Fetesti, some 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, were summoned in response to perform reconnaissance.

No unauthorized intrusions into Romanian airspace were detected, and no debris from downed Russians was found on Romanian territory, the ministry said.

Bucharest has strongly condemned Russian attacks against Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube River.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said in October 2023 that an anti-drone system had been installed by the Ukrainian border after repeated instances of debris falling on Romanian territory.

#Bucharest has previously deployed additional security measures in the border areas, including setting up bomb shelters and issuing air raid warnings.

I was just scrolling yesterday through my stared posts in looking for something and I found this - which just seems way too relevant today in light of the #TuckerCarlson interview with #Putin.

Always remember what #peace means for #Russia whenever that #Kremlin idiot says it wants #negotiations. Always remember what #concessions by #Ukraine in exchange for #peace actually means for #TerroRussia. The only #peace which is acceptable for #Putler is the one where Ukraine gives up all its territory. Then #Moscow can start its #ethniccleaning and the erasure of #Ukrainian identity, just like it did with all the people in its empire. And when that happens, other countries are endangered of following suite - #Moldova, #Georgia, #TheBaltics, even #Poland and #Romania.

At this point, you could comfortably say that Russia is the last classical style #colonialempire of Europe. The only way to #EndTheWarInUkraine is to #defeatrussia.

Russia is taking advantage of European far-right nationalist movements' increasingly vocal claims to Ukrainian #territory, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported in its daily assessment on Jan. 29.

Far-right movements in #Hungary and #Romania raised concern this past week after party leaders in their respective countries claimed parts of Ukrainian territory.

The Washington Post highlights that many men continue to flee #Ukraine to avoid being mobilized.

In fact, several have died from frostbite trying to cross the border to the west on their own and about 25 drowned while crossing the Tysa River that separates Ukraine from #Moldova and #Romania.

In this sense, due to the need to recruit new combatants, "new ways of mobilizing the population and stronger measures against those who evade compulsory military service" are being carried out.

It is at the large border crossings where most Ukrainians have attempted to flee their country, some dressed as women or members of the clergy.

Video shared on social media shows a journalist belonging to the self proclaimed, most trusted news agency in Romania, Digi24, who has been giving pro-Israel coverage since the outbreak of the 2023 Gaza conflict, was caught by viewers in a fake scenario.

The journalist, who also happens to be "an expert in military conflicts" claims to be under fire while rockets "fired by Hamas" are getting "intercepted" by Israeli infantry, because the infantry is equipped to deal with enemy projectiles, when at least 2 cyclists are casually passing by in the background.
