One more great taste of Little Feat!

"Juliette" - Live, May 23, 1975 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia

I may have posted this somewhere in a thread but only know totally focused on it, watching, listening, & getting context....
I know I mentioned this in passing, one of the great songs of the more instrumental/jazz flavored versions, similar to how Jethro Tull had a "classic" bent as well as straight-ahead rock.

So this video was made in 2021 (but I sure missed it!) and it is the best take I've ever heard of this song live.
Incredible performance, blazing , and decent audio for way back when and now via YouTube. (Imagine a fatter bass). The guitars! 🔥
And the kicker: Watch the video! LOL....

Great video, great song, great performance here, by a great band.

THE STONE OF DESTINY

Stone of Scone, also called Stone of Destiny, Scottish Gaelic Lia Fail, stone that for centuries was associated with the crowning of Scottish kings and then, in 1296, was taken to England and later placed under the Coronation Chair.

Legend. Various theories and legends exist about the stone’s history prior to its placement in Scone. One story concerns Fergus, son of Erc, the first King of the Scots (c.  498 – 501) in Scotland, whose transport of the Stone from Ireland to Argyll, where he was crowned on it, was recorded in a 15th-century chronicle. Some versions identify the stone brought by Fergus with the Lia Fáil (Irish for “stone of destiny”) used at Tara for inaugurating the High Kings of Ireland. Other traditions contend that the Lia Fáil remains at Tara. (Inis Fáil, “The Island of Destiny”, is one of the traditional names of Ireland.) Other legends place the origins of the Stone in Biblical times and identify it as the Stone of Jacob, taken by Jacob from Bethel while on the way to Haran (Genesis 28:10–22). This very same Stone of Jacob was then supposedly taken to ancient Ireland by the prophet Jeremiah.

Oh. How we love our legends and rituals.

### Tricolor Strut

A confluence of funny ways the universe of thoughts and sounds collide.
The photograph (#myphoto) is from my recent visit to Myakka River State Park.

I posted some sad stories of the devastation wrought by the destruction of the weir and then Hurricane Ian.
Trees, river, torn away. My favorite birds mostly gone, save the wonderful limpkin. And the gators in their shrunken river.

I'm now sifting through images from camera via card via computer, and here's one I forgot about, another happy bit of nature recovering from devastation, especially in springtime, nesting season. This is a tricolor heron seeming to be doing well, "doing the tricolor strut".

Well, there aren't many "Tricolor Heron Strut"s around, but somehow out of my dim & distance past, I recalled this song, still quite tasty. Wow. Seafood, too. Have a listen to the great #JormaKaukonen and #JackCasady #legends Good week.

Meanwhile.... purely for entertainment love of movies (without politics, & only a smidgeon of anti-semitism as experienced by Spielberg himself - Saw this in a theater Thanksgiving week, with a total of 5 people at a matinee on a big screen, AMC.
First in-theater film for me in years (since pre-COVID) Strange.

The Fabelmans (trailer) - A film from and about Steven Spielberg & Movie-making

Nary a symptom of COVID nor flu nor RVC (thought the entire mall was a ghost town! Guessing many of the maskless masses (FL) are no longer with us, and those who are might be more keen as on watching Fox, NewsMax or anti-Truth... of a non-uplifting variety.
But I digress. Watched this on a huge-screen TV, 5 people in the theater (very well spaced; I watched with mom + 3 people way away).

The movie itself? Interesting, engaging and real, like Spielberg does, but this time it is about him, growing up with a father mostly unsupportive of his "hobby" of making films and a mother who encapsulates the life of many an actor/performer, plus suburbia, the challenges of moving a family to a new place, and a few interesting scenes where young Spielberg is getting his chops, experimenting, getting advice, and occasionally getting bullied, before gaining acclaim among his peers & soon beyond that... Lusciously filmed, natch.

Needless to say: Strong recommend - for movie buffs, certainly anyone familiar with all Spielberg's movie magic.

Blue 2...

Another in blue.
Actually if it were a bird I'd describe it as "tri-color", with white, and grey - and /or black, or together as a color or shade. 😉

Attempting to ID.... ok, it's some sort of "adult owl butterfly". 🦉 🦋
Like the one with "eyes" for disguise/protection.

Well, it's over now, if it was blue, &/or Stormy.
So many "Blue" & "Blues" songs in title and substance. 🎶 Sit back and put yourself in this great concert venue listening live.

## Stormy Monday

Lots of rain here, and it's one of my all-time performances of this classic. 🌩 Live at the Fillmore East. The Holy Grail for many.
Lyrics in the YT description. But it's the music. They were legend - in the biz - for high energy like this, blues & rock, until dawn.

Part 2 / Lowell George Delight

Long Distance Love

(Lyrics are below &/or on the video)

Seeing that vid was what reminded me of of so much that he and his friends brought to American music.
An intro to Little Feat too... Enjoy! Happy Sunday or whenever day. 🎶. Isn't the Internet lovely?

~~
Earlier I posted a live session with Bonnie Raitt and Lowell George doing Winwood's Can't Find My Way Home.
That was a 1972 'bootleg' from the studio, totally live. Bonnie makes a point of calling (the late, great) Lowell George "cute!"
50 years ago as I post this! (2022) Remembering Lowell George now, who like Duane Allman, went way too soon. :(

The YT gods just smiled on me and served this up, from that same exact era, but with the focus on Lowell and his song. It's (IMM) one of the most beautiful songs out of Little Feat, almost like a Michelle, or Angie. The Feats were always the ultimate studio musicians, super-tight, like Steeleye Dan, say, but more emphasis on the rhythm & guitar section than orchestral arrangements.

Anyway, for anyone familiar or not with Little Feat .... Here the song raw and new and plainly shown, again, sort of like "Get Back" or that Raitt bit. Real, and well recorded overall, especially in the recording studio rather than radio setting. But live takes.

Here is a song which - like Willin' and a few other country crooners, and the beautiful All That You Dream, - is both sweet and well arranged. When this song came along, their studio (vinyl) albums were highly polished; they were at home there, not touring much.

Long story short: I'm serving this up first, as it just hit me over the head and inspired me to share the video and the back-story.

AFTER you watch this ancient (1/2 century) old filming of the early days of this song, where you can see Lowell George like few have...as songwriter. After you see this song, I recommend you see/hear how it finally came out. Polished, and he can play the guitar.

Lyrics to enjoy the early version with below. Plus a few references at the end of the end.

Long Distance Love
Oh, hello... give me missing persons, they said
"What is it that you need"?
I said, oh, I need her so
They said you've got to stop your pleading
And no matter what I do, even pray to heaven above
All you'll ever get from her is
Long distance love
I read the papers
And I got the Blues
I was so sad to hear the news
Help wanted, but not enough
You know these times are gettin' rough
'Cause no matter what I do
I even pray to heaven above
All I ever get from her is
Long distance love
Whoo, oo, oo
You know her toes were so pretty
And her laugh so sweet
I wonder does she know
Does she know she hurt me so?
'Cause no matter what I do
I even pray to heaven above
All I seem to get from her is
Long distance love
Ohoo, long distance love
Ohoo, oo, oo
  -Lowell T George
