Thomas Midgley, Jr., a man who one historian said "had more adverse impact on the atmosphere than any other single organism in Earth's history."
In the 1920s, his employer, General Motors, had a problem. Car motors of the time tended to violently backfire, or "knock," which could be disconcerting for the people in the car. Adding ethanol to gasoline solved the problem, but since ethanol already existed, General Motors couldn't patent it.
Midgley solved the problem by inventing a compound called tetraethyllead (TEL), which, when added to gas, produced what would become known as "leaded gasoline." He gave himself lead poisoning in the process, and TEL would go on to poison the rest of the world over the next sixty years. But GM could patent it, so by using their muscle to make it the standard, they got paid every time someone filled their tank.
After that glorious success, GM sent Midgley to their Frigidaire division to work on another problem. Refrigerators were in their infancy, and they depended on refrigerants that were toxic or explosive. This made them hard to sell to nervous hausfraus. Frigidaire wanted a safe, stable refrigerant.
Midgley solved that problem, too. He invented a new type of refrigerant that was dubbed a "chlorofluorocarbon," or CFC for short. You may be more familiar with it by its brand name: Freon. Freon didn't catch fire or explode, so Frigidaire was thrilled. But when deployed in millions of refrigerators, it would end up opening a giant hole in the ozone layer.
In 1940, Midgley contracted polio. He invented a complex system of ropes and pulleys to help him get in and out of bed. On November 2, 1944, he was found dead in his home. His contraption had strangled him.
In his time, Midgley was one of the most celebrated engineers in industry. Medals and prizes and honors rained down on him. It would take decades for the true impact of his work to be fully understood.

Afghan news agency report of a gas attack against 2 schools in the Sarpol province of Afghanistan cause 70 students and 4 teachers to get sick.
The terrorist attack happened on Saturday and the targets were 2 elementary schools of girls in Sancharak city in northern province of Sarpol.
There no detailed report about the type of attack but the victims were having nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, heartburn and difficult to breath.
This is the first such report of a despicable attack against innocent children in #Afghanistan.

به گزارش آر.اف.آی: شماری از رسانه‌های محلی افغانستان از «مسمومیت مرموز» دستکم ۷۰ دانش‌آموز دختر در دو مدرسه دولتی در ولایت سرپل در شمال افغانستان گزارش داده‌اند. منابع به این رسانه‌ها گفته‌اند که در میان دانش‌آموزان مسموم شده ۴ آموزگار نیز هستند.
این دانش‌آموزان از روز شنبه ۱۳ خرداد بدین‌سو در شهرستان سانچارک استان سرپل، مسموم شده‌اند. هرچند هنوز علت این مسمومیت روشن نیست، اما اطلاعات روز به نقل از منابع نوشته که در افراد مسموم شده، علائمی چون اسهال، استفراغ، سرگیجه، سوزش معده و نفس‌تنگی دیده شده است.
روزنامه هشت صبح به نقل از منابع مردمی نوشته که پیش از این رویداد، افرادی مسلح که خود را وابسته به طالبان معرفی کرده بودند در ناحیه دیده شده بودند.

Targeting innocent young children is the most despicable act of terrorism. No matter who is behind these attacks, the disgusting criminal minds behind them should face justice.
According to Shahriar Heidari, the MP, there are going to place a member of security police in every girl school in Iran to find those responsible for the recent attacks all over the country.
The event are getting international attention and spreading in parts of the country that was not seen before.
So far 3 people have been caught by IRI police, one supposedly holding a large canister of pepper spray trying to sneak into a girl primary school.
Even IRI's president #Reisi said in a press conference that the recent attacks have "hands of foreign agents" which is the common term used by the regime when it comes to anything they can not solve.

Hundreds of cases of respiratory distress have been reported in the past three months among schoolgirls mainly in the holy city of Qom, south of Tehran, with some needing hospitalisation.
A government official said on Sunday that the attacks were believed to be a deliberate attempt to force the closure of girls' schools.
"Today (Tuesday) at noon, a number of students were poisoned at the Khayyam Girls' School in the city of Pardis, Tehran province," Tasnim news agency reported.
It said 35 students had been taken to hospital so far, adding to hundreds of cases of reported poisoning since November in at least two other cities including Qom.

As expected, the lunatic "Iran lovers" are using the tragic attacks against female schools in Iran (it is now spreading to primary up to universities) as the proof of IRI's evilness.

The news starting coming out a few months ago, it was in the city of Qum. Where students fel sick after they smelled something sweet and started having headache and stomach problem followed by breathing problem and vomiting.
As the number of cases increased, some people started to blame the hard-line government for spreading fear among families of girls to prevent them from going to school.
As days passed the reports of similar problems started to come up from different cities all around Iran.
It always the same, young female students being the target.
It has caused a major uproar among people and parents of school children who fear for their lives and blaming the Reisi government for not taking it seriously as the number of cases is increasing daily.
Many clerics from all refractions of the government have made statement and condemning these attacks and trying to explain that unlike the Taliban regime, education of female students is a guaranteed and promoted by them and these attacks are the work of "anti revolutionary" and "anti Islam" foreign agends.
In the mean time, the panic is spreading and many parents have decided to keep their children home and asking for "remote education" for their children.

I've lost count how many people I've worked with that lead totally destroyed their lives and family. It can happen very fast, within months, causing confusion, aggressiveness, family and legal problems, banned from stores, early death, and nearly always loss of their job. The stories may seem funny until you know the cause and how it could have all been avoided.
Something like following the industrial hygiene rules at work and not eating candy bars with unwashed hands after making a new batch of heat resistant PVC plastic. It's not worth it welding in forklift battery trays without full positive pressure respirators. Don't dust the batteries and breathe the dust. Because 100% that lead will start replacing calcium as the neurotransmitter in your nervous system and it doesn't work as well. And it's the worst disability and death I've ever seen.
I believed after lead was taken out of gasoline, our country would be sane. That, I haven't seen yet, but it was a step in the right direction.
