Mittels eines Snowflake-Proxys, der als Browser-Addon installiert wird, kann man Menschen dabei helfen, Internetzensur zu umgehen.
Lesezeit: 3 MinutenIn einer freien (digitalen) Gesellschaft gehört die freie Meinungsäusserung und die unzensierte Verbreitung sowie der unzensierte Zugang zu Informationen zu den wichtigsten Gütern die es gibt. Leider ist dies in vielen Ländern nicht mehr möglich. Wie schnell es für betroffene Menschen gefährlich werden kann, zeigt sich sehr deutlich am aktuellen Fall in Russland.
Nicht jeder hat die gleichen Möglichkeiten, den Menschen in der Ukraine, aber auch den unterdrückten Menschen in Russland und anderen Ländern zu helfen, was aber jeder kann, ist das Anbieten eines Snowflake-Proxys.
Das Konzept und die Funktionsweise von Snowflake hat unser Autor Ralf Hersel in einem ausführlichen Artikel erklärt.
Mittels Snowflake können sich Personen, die sich in Gebieten mit starker Zensur befinden, mit dem Tor-Netzwerk verbinden, ohne dieses direkt anzusteuern, falls z.B. das Tor-Netzwerk im jeweiligen Land blockiert ist.
Der Snowflake-Proxy ist eine der einfachsten Möglichkeiten, Menschen bei der Umgehung von Zensur zu helfen.
Snowflake wird als Browser-Addon in Firefox oder Chrome/Chromium installiert und ist standardmässig aktiviert. Nach der Installation von Snowflake können sich von Zensur betroffene Menschen sofort mit diesem Proxy verbinden.Bis sich erste Personen mit deinem Proxy verbinden, kann es einige Stunden dauern. Dass sich jemand verbunden hat, sieht man daran, dass sich die Farbe des Icons vom Snowflake-Addon von violett auf türkis ändert. Sobald sich jemand damit verbunden hat, sieht man bei geöffnetem Addon auch einen Zähler, wie vielen Menschen man mit dem Addon in den letzten 24 Stunden schon helfen konnte.

Using Tor as a HTTP Proxy

1) #Noscript is an excellent add-on which would have prevented a user visiting such waterholed site prevent infection. This method comes with its problems, as it can prevent legitimate sites from loading correctly.
3) Visiting less-known or less-trusted sites in #incognitoMode can mitigate the effect an infection has and the amount of data it can harvest, but would not prevent it.
2} Using #proxy, #VPN or #TOR can also make it harder for the threat actor to target or identify you, but would not prevent an #infection.
