One more dangling response to yesterday's loss of "The Queen of Rock and Roll". (R.I.P. Tina Turner)

Don't Try To Lay No Boogie-Woogie On The King of Rock & Roll

If Tina Turner was queen, Long John Baldry may have been a king.
From his 1971 album, "It Ain't Easy".

Sort of consistent with Levon Helm's take on how you take some Southern music roots, add blues, stir, and what do you call it? "Rock & Roll". John Baldry was a wonderful blender of his local (British) blend of influences of blues, rock, and "boo-gee woo-gie"... 🎹 🎸

Up top of a new post....

One of my very favorite bands and a favorite song of theirs, following some reading and posting about The Band, The Last Waltz, and comments/discussions regarding both the cut-throat rivalries over writing credits and royalties as well as issues of drug abuse, sometimes to the point of overdose &/or suicide.

'It's those rock and roll hours, early graves without flowers..." - Little Feat/Skin It Back

Listen loud &/or earphones - they were one of the premier bands who were masters of studio recording, and Lowell George played a mean slide guitar (the whole band was razor-sharp tight). 🎧

Skin It Back" - Little Feat/Skin It Back

Well I'm waitin' for something to take place
Something to take me away from this race
'Round city to city, town to town
Runnin' around in the shoes of a clown
And that desperate, no count, desperado
A thief of love, my business is the street
I be shakin' 'em down
In old Colorado
Texas she's nice, but Georgia's oh so sweet
Steal away with me darlin' your lovin' just can't be beat
So it seems that the world keeps on turnin' but so what
I don't doubt it, it just keeps on the move
You're a dream, and that's all that I ask for
So well now, I'm wonderin' just how I'm gonna tell it to you
Skin it back (skin it back)
Somethin' real, somethin' to feel
I can't find a soul who'll take on this mess
It's those rock and roll hours, early graves without flowers
Please, please darlin' put my mind at rest
I'm beggin' please darlin' put my mind at rest
So it seems that the world keeps on turnin' but so what
I don't doubt it, it just keeps on the move
You're a dream, and that's all that I ask for
So well now, I'm wonderin' just how I'm gonna tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you

America

Not only has America been eligible for induction into the Rock Hall since 1997, they’ve never been nominated. Their 1971 debut self-titled album featured the international hit “A Horse With No Name,” success they followed up with in singles like “Ventura Highway,” “Lonely People” and “Sister Golden Hair.” They’ve won multiple Grammys and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006.

Jerry Lee Lewis, Influential and Condemned Rock & Roll Pioneer, Dead at 87

Great Balls of Fire! Jerry Lee Lewis dies after 87 years of a Whole Lot of Shaking Going On. (1935-2022)
Initially devoted to Bible, thrown out of Bible school for his piano playing, and the poster child for sex, drugs, & rock & roll.
Married 7 times, including to his 13-year-old cousin, he lived a life of controversy - and an immense contribution to R&R.

Some hilarious and excellent tunes:

Every Day Is Saturday Night, by Barmudas

Don't let the tropical-sounding name fool you, this is good old-fashioned fun rock and roll music

Barmudas take their band’s name from the Barmudas district in Florence’s old town, an immaginary triangular neighborhood, still unknown to the hordes of hungry zombi-tourists looking for cheap italian food, style and art; a place infested and hounted with outsiders, loosers, boozers, and strange people with poor taste in look, music and artistic stuff (often disappearing into the void after passing the night getting high in the area). Barmudas is today the last bastion against the invasion of hipsters, indie posers, coffee shakers, cover bands, fashion influencers and snob-intellectual people crowding downtown Florence.

Down Down Down, by Le Muffe

Five years after their previous album, the furious and iconoclastic energy of Le Muffe is finally back! Since 2011 the powerful #Italian trio has been playing a highly inflammable mix of #garage, #beat and #punk.

The band’s new effort is out now: "Down, Down, Down", their third official LP, confirms their style through 10 new #songs in which you can find the essential elements that define Le Muffe’s peculiar #sound. First of all, there is a #musical background which is immediately recognizable but at the same time it’s so unusual because it tends to escape the genre’s stereotypes by finding its own original way within the garage, beat and punk scene!

In addition to that, there is the total absence of the guitar, with the central musical role played by the omnipresent acid #organ, plus a pulsing nervous #bass, and pounding aggressive #drums. This exciting musical mixture supports unconventional, self-mocking and socially pungent lyrics, declaimed (mainly in Italian, but not only) by Ol Pipa with his peculiar cavernous voice.

La Decima Vittima, by Lisa Beat E I Bugiardi

After the positive reviews and the sold-out debut EP, Lisa Beat and her Liars are back with three dancing, easy-on-the-ears songs: two originals and a cover.

Side A features "Sole" (Sun) which echoes the #60s #soul atmospheres thanks to a #trumpet section. On the B side another original: “Io non esisto più” (I Don't Exist Anymore), which is closer in style to 60s #Italian #Beat.
And last but not least, the title track! “La Decima Vittima” (The 10th Victim) is an instrumental cover of “Miss Augusta” by the Italian band “MiniVIP” arranged in “Spy Story” style.

The cover art is curated by Max Galli, renowned author of comics influenced by the #Mod 60s era: the muse on the cover is inspired by the look of "Olga" (Elsa Martinelli) in "La Decima Vittima", iconic 1965 movie by Elio Petri starring Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress, to which this "liar" record is paying homage.
