British nuclear missile test fails and crashes into sea

A recent Royal Navy test of the missile that carries Britain's nuclear deterrent failed within seconds, it has emerged, raising new questions about the deterrent's viability at a time of elevated #nuclear tensions.

First revealed by the Sun newspaper, the US-manufactured #Trident missile was launched from the #submarine HMS #Vanguard off the east coast of the US.

However, instead of flying the planned thousands of miles before coming down in the southern Atlantic Ocean, it crashed into the sea near the launch site.

So, the #UK's #Trident missile test fired from a Royal Navy #submarine failed, for the second time in a row. These missiles, which can carry #nuclear war heads, are key to the UK's supposed nuclear deterrent ability.

I enjoyed hearing the military man on the radio this morning, explaining how failing to launch these #phallic symbols happens to everyone. OK, he didn't say phallic. But he might as well have.

"The new nuclear-powered strategic underwater missile cruiser Imperator Alexander III successfully fired the #Bulava intercontinental submarine-launched ballistic missile from the White Sea to the Kura #combat field in the #Kamchatka Peninsula," it said, TASS reported.

I would say an ice-cold cold #war deterrent gesture.

Banana Trump

Yellow reminds me (musically and visually) of many things, from Donovan's Mellow Yellow to Yellow Submarine and of course, Banana...;

Seeing the above cartoon reminded me of a great Little Feat Song...

Skin It Back

The lyrics were rather prescient too, and definitely applicable to the co-subject in the cartoon:

"Well I'm waitin' for something to take place
Something to take me away from this race...
Runnin' around in the shoes of a clown
And that desperate, no count, desperado...
GEORGIA'S SO SWEET...." Full Lyrics Below

Submarine Cables Face Escalating Cybersecurity Threats, Report

source: https://www.hackread.com/submarine-cables-cybersecurity-threats/

Meanwhile, #Russia poses a physical security threat to submarine cables, particularly those in the North Sea region. Severing a cable can cause significant disruptions, and damage inflicted in deep water would be even more impactful due to longer repair times. State-sponsored threat actors possess the necessary resources to identify and target cables in deep water.

I Bought A PERSONAL SUBMARINE From 1998!! (130+ Feet DEEP)

Something to dream of ....... or at least, have fun watching.

Somebody bought a "Sports Submarine" from the 1990ies. And restored it to full functionality. Which wasn't that bad after some air hoses and cables got replaced. Oh and the battery, which was a endeavor on it's own.

Well, i won't spoiler any further, just have fun with Jiggin' With Jordan and his 7 part playlist;

Iran Forces US Submarine to Surface in Strait of Hormuz

On Thursday, a top Iranian military commander said the country's navy has warned a nuclear-powered U.S. submarine to surface while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Army's Navy Commander Shahram Irani made the remarks in an interview with state-owned IRIB TV's News Network, without elaborating on the date of the event.

Iran's Fateh (Conqueror) submarine detected the the American submarine Florida, through a set of maneuvers, and forced it to surface while the latter was approaching the Strait of Hormuz in "complete silence," he added.

Iran warned the U.S. submarine as it had entered the Iranian territorial waters "to some extent," Irani said, adding the U.S. submarine, accompanied by an escort ship, then corrected its course and continued its journey.

Washington should explain why did its submarine violate Iran's maritime borders and international maritime laws in an important strait, Irani said, calling on the U.S. to observe all international regulations from now on.

He said Iran will pursue the case through international bodies and organizations, warning that such an "illegitimate and dangerous" presence by the United States poses a challenge to everyone.

The U.S. Navy said last week the nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine Florida was operating in the Middle East to support the Bahrain-based U.S. Fifth Fleet.
