Der zivile Chef der US-Luftwaffe, Frank Kendall, ließ sich kürzlich mit einem KI-gesteuerten F-16-Kampfjet durch die Gegend fliegen - er hat es überlebt. Auf die Frage, ob er Vertrauen in die steuernde KI gehabt hätte, antwortete er laut AP: "Es ist ein Sicherheitsrisiko, sie nicht zu haben. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt müssen wir sie haben." Auch ein erster KI-gesteuerte Luftkampf fand im September 2023 statt, berichtet Telepolis.

Rüstungskontrollexperten und humanitäre Gruppen, wie das Internationale Komitee vom Roten Kreuz, sind dagegen zutiefst besorgt, wenn künftig die Möglichkeit besteht, dass eine KI autonom Bomben abwerfen könnte, die Menschen ohne menschlichen Befehl töten.

Interessanterweise sind es sogar Kostenüberlegungen, die die US Luftwaffe dazu bringen in KI zu investieren. Die Entwicklungskosten für die in der Entwicklung befindlichen F-35 Kampfflugzeuge überschreiten alle Planungen und ein funktionsfähiges Exemplar ist noch nicht abzusehen.

Unbemannte, KI-gesteuerte Jets werden gegenüber den auf rund 1,7 Billionen US-Dollar geschätzten Kosten als günstige Alternative gesehen.

The jet was left in autopilot mode so there’s a possibility it could still be airborne somewhere over South Carolina, a spokesman at Joint Base Charleston told NBC News.

A U.S. fighter jet’s stealth abilities appear to be working too well, with authorities forced to ask the public for help finding an F-35 that went missing somewhere over South Carolina when the pilot ejected because of a “mishap.”

The U.S. military sees planned engine upgrades for all the variants of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter as critical because the Pratt & Whitney F135 engines that power all of the aircraft have been "under spec since the beginning," according to the top officer in charge of the program. This means the engines have to routinely operate at higher-than-expected temperatures, which has led to costly increased maintenance and logistics requirements and has. hurt the F-35's overall readiness rates.

The $2T spent on the project was not enough. They want more, and now that Europe is stupidly paying for it, they can afford fixing the faults.

$1.7T in development cost and large number of disaster crashes won't stop idiot EU countries to pay 100s of millions for these planes.

He also said old low frequency radar, which the Russians and the rest of the world have in excess, can easily detect the aircraft, therefore making its so-called “stealth” an expensive and unnecessary feature that might make little difference in combat
