#granite
Your wonderful German folk tale, 'Visbeker Braut' reminded me of my beloved granite rock. Most of the time it’s under my computer desk. I use it for a foot rest. It's wonderful to have my bare foot - right there on top of it. I only remove the rock to clean the floor. We have been together for many years. We have become a part of each other. it gives new meaning to the term "Pet Rock." Unlike many things, and relationships, granite is forever.
In former days they created such beautiful granite entrances; this one is part of a passage in our little town.

Data from two Chinese orbiters helped a team of scientists explain why a patch of lunar terrain is so much warmer than the surrounding area.
#Dartmoor in #springtime. The landscape of Dartmoor is quite varied although it is geologically a #granite intrusion into the Earth's crust it has been shaped by weathering, erosion and human intervention, such as #agriculture and #forestry. Here we see a #river #valley in the background and a #TreeStump in the foreground. The weather was as benign as can be expected there as you can tell by the blue #sky and light clouds.
Yesterday Andrea et moi went on a stone hiking trail in Langschlag... took us about 2.5 hours but, we did not do all 11km.
I love the Waldviertel, not only because my paternal gran is from there but, it is such calm and quiet land mostly covered by forest.
The one stone in the middle of the pic is the Wackelstein/wobble stone...

I did a short #hike in #Dartmoor yesterday. The wind was gusting to over 70 km/h and it was sometimes difficult to stay upright. The weather was very changeable and so we made sure that we were prepared with full waterproof attire, a map in a transparent sealed waterproof case.and some food and hot drinks for this #winter #excursion. Even for a brief trip, perhaps an hour and a half in duration, planning is important. In the photograph you can see the #BirchTor which we'd just been on from a couple of km distance.
The #geology of this #NationalPark is based on the #exposure of #weathered #Granite and #Tors are #outcrops found at the summit of #hills.

I've just been reviewing some #photographs from a few years ago. Here is one of somewhere on #Dartmoor, near #Hexworthy. I like the rather bleak beauty of the place with scant but hardy vegetation in the exposed areas. The #geology is that of weathered #granite which develop into #tors.
