The omnipresence of a belief based on social stigma makes it almost impossible to avoid picking up at least some of it. This is called self-stigma, and self-stigma is the mother-category of all sorts of really awful things, from internalized racism to internalized transphobia to any number of self-reinforcing self-hating beliefs. And self-stigma is bad. Really bad.
