make a plan now, it will take you 10 minutes. look for orgs that don't look like they have a lot of money. prioritize them. find out which org you want to help, get their number, and put it in your calendar for monday to call. if they don't need your help, ask them if they know of another place you can help. they probably know.

allow the fear and dread you have now to motivate you to actually act and make a promise you need to keep to another.

PARTICULARLY IF YOU ARE A WOMAN IN INFOSEC, FOCUS ON REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS GROUPS AND AT RISK WOMEN'S SHELTERS, THEY WILL ONLY TYPICALLY DEAL WITH CIS WOMEN

also DO NOT chicken out just post some tutorials on your fucking feed or in some discord server nobody will see. that don't count. GO OUT INTO THE WORLD AND HELP HUMANS.

for example, i volunteer at a inner city non-profit that does after school programs for at risk youth. i teach basic compsci there, and mentor a few kids that want to go into infosec.

in infosec we are all EXTREMELY privileged...

Well, folks, the #Election2024 is over with growing fear of the Dominionists who won because til now, Russia was just a distant paper tiger. One of the things that helped win the Cold War of yore was Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, and I expect those two entities plus the Voice of America are now going to be converted into Trumpistan propaganda outlets.

I'm not going to try to walk through all the permutations of chaos, destruction, hate, and horror that Trump, Musk, RFK, et al are about to unleash on the country and the world. I stated after January 6th, 2021 that I could make excuses for people that vote for Trump/MAGA in 2016 even though I was disappointed and angry with them and maybe even in 2020. But after a literal attempted coup, and the years afterward as their level of homophobia, xenophobia, and hatred towards people left of center was on full display. No. After things like Project 2025 spelled out exactly what they plan to do, which is an extension of what they already did. No. After seeing how the courts have rolled back women's and minorities rights by decades thanks to Trump's nominees. No. After seeing that even the most draconian warnings of what the Republicans would do with the rollbacks weren't sufficiently pessimistic? No. There are no more excuses for you. You get no more passes from me. I honestly don't want to have anything to do with anyone that voted for it again. That's especially true for those that are rah rah full throated MAGA. I don't need that kind of toxicity in my life and will actively seek to excise it in the coming weeks and months. The previous years of bridge building, talking, making peace for social functions to pretend I'm okay with it are no longer. We have crossed my threshold to put on airs on this crap. I say this right after the first batch of early vote tabulations are coming in from Georgia and it's coming in way stronger for Harris than it has been for Biden, Hillary, or Obama: With all the weird dynamics with respect to early voting behaviors I am not putting any stock in any projections any of these motherfuckers are doing based on these numbers. I'll wait until we get final tabulations with election day voting too. And yes, we ended up turning on that infernal cable news crap but MSNBC, the least worst option. #uspoli #Election2024

My evening plan for following the election results are to religious check my social media feed on Friendica, which gives me the network stream of Mastodon, Bluesky, Diaspora, and a few select Threads accounts. I'll add Ron Filipkowski and Joe Walsh follows directly on threads.net. I'll also be following the live updates on electoral-vote.com . I'm planning on not turning on cable news, going to traditional news sites etc. They fucked us over yet again and I don't want to give them any of my direct clicks/views/etc. I will probably bounce around live stream broadcasts on some YouTube channels I regularly follow.
