The Government is sneaking in new powers to spy on all of our bank accounts on the premise of dealing with welfare fraud and error.
It will force banks to flag people who meet secret criteria to the government.
Everyone wants fraudulent uses of public money to be dealt with, and the government already has strong powers to check the bank statements of suspects.
But this is a major expansion of government power that takes away our financial privacy like never before and does away with the presumption of innocence - the democratic principle that you shouldn't be spied on unless police suspect you of wrongdoing.

(She declined to be interviewed for this story on advice of her attorney.) But most of Perwaiz’s victims, of which there are likely hundreds, have been left without a clear path to restitution. The FBI designated a victim coordinator to connect former patients with mental health services and to communicate information about the investigation and trial to people requesting it. The bureau told potential victims that, as a first step in addressing any harm done to them, they could request their medical files from Perwaiz’s office.

Look around you, it's a festival of economic madness at every political level! It seems like they're throwing money out the window as if it were confetti at a wedding where nobody is invited. And when you try to understand where all this money is going, it's like following an epileptic goat through a labyrinth - it's confusing, it makes no sense, and in the end, you wonder why you even tried.
I have had an interesting new year and maybe its just me but patterns seem to emerge which I find interesting so I’m going to share these with anyone who cares.
I was about to embark on a great holiday around Asia until a doctor rang me and informed me that a CT scan I had just done showed I was about to die from heart failure. This was a bit of a surprise as I’m pretty fit and the only reason I did the scan was to try to find the reason for an arrhythmia I get after intense exercise.
So I stayed home in misery reading books and looking at heart problems on the internet hmmm.
Anyway the book I read was The Fate of Civilization by Michael Hudson and as I read it and read about heart health I saw a common theme
I have not delved to much into health just no smoking, fit, moderate diet but as I dived into the heart I found out about Nitic oxide. You might know about it but I didn’t. Nitric oxide is produced by the bacteria in the mouth and stomach as well as within the body by various processes and it is a key component in health from circulation to the immune system
When they discovered my heart condition I was prescribe aspirin and an anticoagulant, statins, beta blockers and a vascular dilation drug. Each one of these drugs either sapped my energy, ruined my sleep, upset my stomach, made me anxious or upset my heart rhythm. I actually felt terrible even though this was for my health.
To top it of each one of these drugs inhibited the formation of nitric oxide.
In The Fate of Civilization Michael Hudson showed that it was unearned income that is destroying our economy and society as well as our ability to save our environment. There are a lot of things around this such as debt and the belief that all debt must be paid but this all revolved around the belief that unearned income was a legitimate income and the ability to extract this must be protected.
The extraction of unearned income in the form of rents, interest, resource use and intellectual property is the major cause of our wealth disparity, it is the reason countries are kept in poverty and why our environment is degraded.
So what do nitric oxide and unearned income have in common?
I have heard no discussion of either of these topics outside of the alternative media. I go to my doctor, do a blood test and am offered statins which are an industrial solution to a problem caused by the industrial nature of our food. I will have a stent which is more industrial solutions and each one adds to GDP. My ill health creates economic benefit according to economists but it is the industrial system and those who own this system who benefit.
With unearned income in the form of rents or interest people are made poorer, demand declines and the countries debt expands, the solution we are told is austerity or a reduction in public services or privatization of our resources. These are the solutions proposed by those who have extracted the unearned income form our countries and their solutions will only benefit them again.
You might say I was told to eat my greens but to be honest I never realised why or the process involved from the greens to my health, I was never told about the role Nitic oxide played and maybe its because my doctor was never taught. This is the same as our economy, most of our economists have probably never heard of unearned income as they are taught all income is earned.
I then read this article about our duty to speak honestly. Now totalitarianism might be some distance from nitric oxide but it is closely linked to unearned income as this is the key that puts the one percent in the one percent.
So read or listen to Michael Hudson and learn about unearned income and talk about unearned income to anyone and everyone. We need to make it part of our language. Oh and don’t forget to eat your kale and beets you need a healthy heart to keep the conversation going.

Here are a few things to think about as we prepare for the new year.
The following is just based upon some observations, leading, of course, to assumptions.
No further loans for #Ukraine.
Ukraine’s state budget is exhausted. In order to repay further loans, future generations of Ukrainians would have to pay the world banks for many decades or perhaps even longer. Ukraine is no longer creditworthy, further support is no longer worthwhile. There are still other countries whose state coffers are well filled. In order to ensure further growth in wealth, the focus will probably be on exploiting those coffers and on creating new areas of conflict. The war in Ukraine will end and move to another area.
As I said, this is just an opinion that may not be based on facts. But one fact is that not all people are honest about their motivations and interests.
Furthermore, I assume that the calls to support armed conflict are primarily for the benefit of the arms industry and its beneficiaries and are officially for the purpose of ensuring national security. Whereby “national security” is not necessarily that of states and citizens.
I guess, that neither the nation nor socialism is in the interests of those who want to enrich themselves at the expense of others,
and national socialism is not for the people’s well-being.
However, I also know a lot of people who like to work together and look out for each other. Let us find each other.

The Kremlin has laundered $2.5 billion of African gold since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to a report by an international group of researchers and human rights activists published on Dec. 12.
Russia's illicit activities and ties to authoritarian regimes in Africa have been under the public eye for years. Russian mercenaries on the continent, whose operations help to fill Moscow's coffers, have been repeatedly accused of human rights abuses against local populations.
The Blood Gold Report reveals that Russia-backed mercenaries, including the Wagner Company, support authoritarian regimes and destabilization in Africa as part of resource extraction schemes that bring Russia more than $100 million per month.
The research focused on Wagner's operations in three African countries, each illustrating a different method of resource extraction.

Contrast that with a WSJ article about Europe’s military incapacity nearly two years into the Ukraine War: the UK still has only 150 deployable tanks and 12 pieces of long-range artillery; France has 90 of the latter, which Russia loses on the field in any month; and Germany’s army has enough ammunition for two days of battle, and can produce all of three tanks a month.
So Germany is at war with Russia with 3 days of ammunition and able to build 3 tanks a month.
If I was a German I would be considering a change of government.
