It seems like everyone has Covid-19. Here’s why this wave is probably worse than official data suggests
Covid-19 certainly didn’t take a vacation this summer. Virus levels in the US have been on the rise for weeks, but it’s hard to know exactly how widely it’s spreading.
Federal data suggests that the current increases have stayed far below earlier peaks and notable surges. But judging by word of mouth among family, friends and coworkers, it can seem like everyone knows someone who’s sick with Covid-19 right now.

“We wanted to make it like flu because that was easier, but it’s never going to be like flu,” Birx said, explaining that Covid-19 comes in more frequent waves, makes people sicker, kills more people and can have longer-term complications such as long Covid. “So let’s just all agree it’s not flu. It will never be flu. Following it and surveying for it like we do for flu will never be adequate in this country.”Precautions like masking and staying up-to-date on vaccinations are especially important as this rise in Covid-19 carries into the broader respiratory virus season, experts say.
Hundreds of hospital wards closed due to Covid outbreaks
At least 237 wards were closed to new admissions - typically for periods of around seven to 10 days - in a bid to prevent the virus spreading to other patients.
That compares to a total of 93 ward closures up to the end of July for all other infection control incidents combined, including cases of norovirus, flu, RSV, or gastroenteritis.
The true figures will be higher, however, as NHS Dumfries and Galloway has not yet responded to a freedom of information request and NHS Lothian - Scotland's second largest health board - said it was unable to provide data.

How Doctors Create Customers
If you ever wondered why the learning of history is discouraged, or why Castalia History is so important, this anecdote from Chroniques de Genève by François Bonivard, finished in 1570 but not published until 1831, should suffice to explain it.
When the #bubonic #plague struck #Geneva in 1530, everything was ready. They even opened a whole #hospital for the plague victims. With #doctors, #paramedics and #nurses. The traders contributed, the magistrate gave grants every month. The patients always gave money, and if one of them died alone, all the goods went to the hospital.
But then a #disaster happened: the plague was dying out, while the #subsidies depended on the number of patients. There was no question of right and wrong for the Geneva hospital staff in 1530. If the plague produces money, then the plague is good. And then the doctors got organized.
At first, they just #poisoned #patients to raise the #mortality #statistics, but they quickly realized that the statistics didn’t have to be just about mortality, but about mortality from plague. So they began to cut the #boils from the bodies of the dead, dry them, grind them in a mortar and give them to other patients as #medicine. Then they started #dusting clothes, handkerchiefs and garters. But somehow the plague continued to abate. Apparently, the dried #buboes didn’t work well. #Doctors went into town and #spread bubonic powder on door handles at night, selecting those homes where they could then profit. As an eyewitness wrote on these events, “this remained hidden for some time, but the devil is more concerned with increasing the number of sins than with hiding them.”
In short, one of the doctors became so impudent and lazy that he decided not to wander the city at night, but simply threw a bundle of dust into the crowd during the day. The stench rose to the sky and one of the girls, who by a lucky chance had recently come out of that hospital, recognized what that smell was.
The doctor was tied up and placed in the good hands of competent “craftsmen.” They tried to get as much information from him as possible. However, the #execution lasted several days. The #ingenious #hypocrites were tied to poles on wagons and carried around the city. At each intersection the executioners used red-hot tongs to tear off pieces of meat. They were then taken to the public square, #beheaded and #quartered, and the pieces were taken to all the districts of Geneva.
The only exception was the hospital director’s son, who did not take part in the trial but blurted out that he knew how to make potions and how to prepare the powder without fear of contamination. He was simply beheaded “to prevent the spread of evil”.
Apparently the Geneva doctors didn’t initially understand that excess mortality statistics would give them away either.
It is said that #Bonivard’s work is not well-regarded by historians. I have no doubt that is the case. But that does not mean that it does not provide a faithful and true account of the events it relates. What historians believe to be credible is often a very false and unreliable metric. The abhorrent behavior of the sixteenth-century Geneva doctors is much easier to believe in the immediate aftermath of the #Covid #pandemic and the #mass #vaxxassinations of their twenty-first-century counterparts.
And it’s interesting to see how the hospital bureaucrats were in on the murderous Geneva scheme too.
What to know about EG.5, the latest Omicron subvariant in Canada
A new coronavirus subvariant on the rise in some parts of the world has also been circulating in Canada since at least May, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
While experts say this latest strain, EG.5, appears to be more infectious and able to sneak past our immune defences, there's also not much evidence to suggest that it causes more severe illness.
"It's something to certainly keep a close eye on, but I'm not significantly worried about it at this point," said Dr. Syra Madad, an epidemiologist at the Harvard Belfer Center.
EG.5 subvariants are predicted to have made up 36 per cent of cases in Canada between July 30 to Aug. 5, according to an email the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) shared with CBC News.

WHO: Europe Is Facing Multiple Health Crises This #Summer
"Nearly 36 million people across the WHO European Region may have experienced Long COVID in the first three years of the pandemic," said Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO regional director for #Europe. "This number equals approximately 1 in 30 Europeans."
According to #WHO, nearly 1,000 new COVID-19-related deaths are still being reported in the region each week.

WHO downgrades COVID pandemic, says it's no longer a global emergency
The World Health Organization said Friday that COVID-19 no longer qualifies as a global emergency, marking a symbolic end to the devastating coronavirus pandemic that triggered once-unthinkable lockdowns, upended economies worldwide and killed at least seven million people worldwide.
WHO said that even though the emergency phase was over, the pandemic hasn't come to an end, noting recent spikes in cases in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The UN health agency says that thousands of people are still dying from the virus every week.

perhaps the studies done in the 1990s, and other times, that showed they not only did not reduce spready of pathogens and disease, but increased them, and increased both nocebo stress, and overconfidence, worsening outcomes both directions, such that warnings were put on packaging that they did not protect nor prevent spread... or any of the other studies that showed the same results... or any of the recent studies likewise showing it has no effect at preventing spread, or that show harms from breathing in fibers deep into the lungs, and create a warm wet microbe incubation layer, and chronic low level hypoxia imparing both immune system and cognitive reasoning capacity...?
... i remember nurses talking about this when i was in hospital in 2002, aware of the studies^, as much as aware of the P.N.A.C. and its plans for the fraudulently patented sars cov 2...
