#Antisemitic discourse, the #terror of october 7th and the subsequent #boycott #movement in #academia, club- and #subculture
An english-speaking panel discussion with David Hirsh, Nicholas Potter, Tanja Ehmann & the #Punks against #antisemitism, followed by a concert with Morgen Teuer Töten, Die feuchten Banditen & Peitsche
Friday – 05.07.2024 – 19:00 – Skatehalle #Berlin (Revaler Str. 99, F’hain)
These days, we are witnessing antisemitic outrage nearly everywhere: on campus, in the cultural sphere, in subculture, on the streets, in social media. This is nothing new, but it is getting more intense, more aggressive, like the city’s new steady pulse. People, synagogues and other buildings, campuses and venues are attacked, public speeches are shouted down, #Israeli institutions and academics are boycotted.
The #sexual #violence of the 7th October is denied or justified by so-called #feminist activists. #Hamas #propaganda manifests itself and is multiplied by social media. People are excited by the terror of 7th October – by #torture, #murder, and #rape. Objecting this propaganda is usually decried as #racist.
When the ‘ #PunksAgainstAntisemitism’ (AKA Punks) surfaced in Berlin in the aftermath of #7thOctober, a huge shitstorm on social media followed. People were spewing their unsolicited hatred, and the hatred did not take long to spread, coming from Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland... Bands and venues are threatened with boycott.
The mechanisms seem to be the same in every sector. #Screaming down people, #doxing, verbal #threats and physical #attacks, boycott campaigns.
Our panel does not exclusively aim to focus on Berlin or subculture. We want to speak about the processes currently at work in the multifaceted world of vile antisemitism. This antisemitism elates and excites people, a new lifestyle that encourages them to terrorise #Jews and others while being thoroughly convinced to do something good.
It is a great honour to have David Hirsh with us this evening, and we look forward to discussing all these topics with him, Nicholas Potter and Tanja Ehmann.
Afterwards we’ll have a fabulous show with Morgen Teuer Töten, Die feuchten Banditen and Peitsche!
Why Is the #Amiga so Beloved in the #Demoscene?
The Commodore Amiga and its Undying Adoration by Anarchist Creatives
The Commodore Amiga is a successful line of personal #computers from the mid-1980s to 1990s. At the time of its introduction, the Amiga had superior #graphics and #sound capabilities compared to all other home computers. This magical computer enabled its young users to create graphics, #music and #animations with a level of sophistication that was previously unattainable in the home.
To this day, the Amiga holds a great significance in the demoscene, a niche #subculture of #developers, musicians and #artists who create real-time audiovisual presentations called demos.
This essay investigates the gestation of the demoscene, the Amiga platform's revolutionary beginnings, its emotional resonance within a dedicated community, and its broader influence on the field of computer graphics and music. Why is the Amiga still one of the most beloved and significant platforms in the demoscene?

'Growing from a slur about impoverished whites (taken from the stereotype of driving the inexpensive, late model Ford Zephyr), zef style appropriates the images of white poverty as a mock display of apartheid attitudes and politics. This choice of portrayal latently indicates not only marginal whiteness but their transculturation resulting from cohabitation with other marginalized population.' ᴢ. Amanda Du Preez [link above].
The Russian “protest” #culture continues its procession down the road of moderateness and carefulness. First we witnessed the ROAR almanac, edited by Linor Goralik, which took in only the works by “correctly”, “humanely”, and moderately rebelling authors according to the principle “just don’t cause any inconveniences”, while also publishing poems by poor souls showing compassion to Russian jingoists. Now this tradition is continued by a band from a seemingly different cultural cluster: Russian import-oriented popular #music. It’s doubtful that the members and the vast majority of #LittleBig fans are reading Neo-modernist works, or even authors like Vera Polozkova, but this band’s new music video exhibits the very same thing: a half-hearted #rebellion.
The anti-war music video “Generation Cancellation” came out on 24th of June. This song, like many other songs of theirs, is performed in English; Little Big here tries to appear as part of the global cultural context and seemingly distance itself from the realities of “provincial” #Russia. But what we have is nothing new: cowardly pseudo-rebelliousness has become a defining characteristic of many Russian cultural figures.

We have heard a wide range of explanations for last week’s protests in #Cuba. #Rightwing proponents of capitalism blame the Cuban #government, charging that the #protests stem from the failures of one-party #socialism. Self-proclaimed anti-imperialists blame the United States government, alleging that these protests indicate covert #US intervention. Others blame US #sanctions on Cuba, suggesting that these are chiefly to blame for creating the economic conditions that sparked the protests. Each of these narratives contains a grain of #truth, but all fall short of grasping the whole.
How do people in Cuba see the protests? If we do not wish to simply project our own assumptions onto the events, the first thing we should do is to ask Cubans how they understand what is happening. Of course, there are bound to be countless different perspectives among the participants in a popular protest movement—but we can begin by consulting those whose politics are similar to our own.
One of the more visible Cuban anarchist groups is the Alfredo López Libertarian Workshop (Taller Libertario Alfredo López), an anarchist, anti-authoritarian, and anti-capitalist initiative that emerged in 2012. They are part of the Anarchist Federation of the Caribbean and Central America and one of the participants in the ABRA Social Center and Libertarian Library.
