Closing in on 10pm. Inventory of unmaintained assets. Striving to understand certain derailings of things that used to work well just weeks ago. A change in behaviour without a change in instructions always causes an uncanny feel. (Trying to consult the machine, but facts don't make sense, or the algorithm is tired. Both options seem valid.)

Zu warm, eigentlich, aber trotzdem schafft es neuer Schnee irgendwie, scheinbar gewichtslos durch den späten Himmel zu tanzen, Wellen mit dem Wind zu schlagen zwischen den Autos knapp über der Straße, liegenzubleiben auf den letzten Herbstblättern struppiger Büsche. Gegenüber tragen die Studenten Kisten mit Bier und Glühwein in den weit offenen Hauseingang und diskutieren Themen, die Uneingeweihten vollständig und dauerhaft verschlossen bleiben. Im Erdgeschoss stehen Lichtbilder aus der alten Heimat hinter trübem Glas. Immer noch sind Geist und Seele noch nicht richtig im Advent angekommen.

9pm and still further. Balancing between what needs to be, what should be, and what's possible trying to achieve both and still have room in that night for something that may be instead of having to be. One machine's singing, the others just keep quiet as if knowing they'd better stay out of the way. Stories of bits and pieces as the page of this day rapidly fills.

Archaeological networking: The tendency and behaviour of trying to look up and browse the recent doings of random names washed back to the focus of attention in trivial tasks, like cleaning up mailing list folders or removing fake-addressed spam messages. Hardly leads anywhere but usually ends up learning about the distance that has quietly sneaked into once-active communities with the years. (Also: Nothing seems to separate people as effectively as ideals and values growing into different directions...)
