After lunch yesterday, we went to the #HistoryOfScienceMuseum in #Oxford. It's not very big but contains some really fascinating exhibits. It is right next to the #SheldonianTheatre and well worth a visit.

Here are wooden models of the #FivePlatonicSolids.

This is a beautiful example of #HandWriting in a book. #Writing like this is certainly a lost art these days.

This wooden box contains some immaculate #brass #DrawingInstruments. Another rarity these days but I do remember learning how to use similar #instruments while studying at university.

Without anything but manual #SurveyingEquipment, humans were able accurately to map out the entire globe. It's amazing what can be achieved when humanity works together. But also, this model is absolutely gorgeous.

Not to be outdone, the #astronomers mapped the #sky and here it appears on a companion globe.

No computers were around then but the ingenuity of humans to develop calculating instruments to allow them to crunch numbers meant the creation of some devices of stupendous cunning.

To this day, trainee pilots have to master the #CircularSlideRule in order to do calculations for various tasks. Before flying was ever developed, such #SlideRules were in common use.

This #camera is another fine example of hand-made instruments. The craft and skill of whoever made it is a marvel.

This is an example of an heirloom wedding invitation I did. There are three parts to it. This is the center section. The bride selected the quote. The invitation was printed on fine, light pink paper at a printers, and envelopes were made. She loved roses, especially pink ones. Roses were on her dress, in her bouquet, and decorated the place of their wedding. She was given the original invitation.

I incorporate my last name in all the artwork I do, but for the sake of privacy on the internet, I have removed it from these posts.

This is an example of an heirloom wedding invitation I did.The bride selected the quote. Each section contains written information. For the sake of their privacy, I have removed their names, time and place from the invitation. It was printed on sturdy paper at a printers, then folded, addressed and a gold seal was placed to close it. Each an every heirloom invitation is different, and personalized for every couple. I also give them the original art.

My wife was looking at the properties of #ellipses such as the one where the sum of the distance of all points on the #ellipse from the two foci are the same and how that relates to the standard equation of an ellipse and so I showed her using my scribbly #handwriting and untidy drawings. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit home and so I wrote these notes up neatly using #LaTeX, which did do the trick.

To put it up here, I converted the #PostScript pages to #PNG format using #GNU #Gimp and the figure was produced using #Tgif.
