Après avoir lu le roman il y a déjà bien longtemps, bouleversant, le film, magnifique et très fidèle. Technique : cliquer sur le lien sans rien toucher ensuite, sinon on est “invité” à l’inscription… Dès que ça bloque sur l'invitation, recliquer sur le lien, on accède à la suite du film. Le son est parfois faible. Un hommage aux victimes de la Première Guerre mondiale en France.

Ce film est l’adaptation cinématographique du roman du même nom de #Sébastien_Japrisot.
Dans les tranchées de la Somme, pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, cinq soldats français sont accusés de s’être automutilés pour échapper à leur devoir. Condamnés à mort par une cour martiale, ils sont conduits jusqu’à un avant-poste nommé Bingo crépuscule1 et abandonnés à leur sort dans le no man’s land qui sépare les deux camps. Ils sont apparemment tous tués, soit durant la nuit qu’ils passent entre les lignes, soit durant l’attaque française à la baïonnette qui est lancée le lendemain et repoussée par les Allemands, avec de lourdes pertes parmi les attaquants. Parmi eux figure Manech, un jeune landais originaire de Capbreton (et considéré à tort comme breton), le fiancé de Mathilde, jeune romantique qui ne croit pas à la mort de son amoureux. S’il était mort, elle le saurait. Forte de cette intuition, elle mène son enquête et recueille peu à peu les indices qui vont l’amener à découvrir ce qui s’est passé ce jour-là à Bingo crépuscule. Utilisant des superstitions, elle est amenée à souffler sur la poussière qui voile cette affaire sombre et mystérieuse. Mathilde engage un détective privé, M. Germain Pire, qui l’aide dans ses recherches.

Bien que la majorité des acteurs soient français et l’ensemble des scènes tournées en France, cette coproduction a été jugée étrangère le 26 novembre 2004 en raison de la forte participation de la société américaine Warner Bros. aux frais de production, ce qui lui a fait perdre le droit à une future subvention du centre national de la cinématographie. Pulp book cover reimaginings of the original Star Wars trilogy
It is an inaccuracy to say that Star Wars is science fiction. Its true genre is Planetary Romance. Star Wars is an adventure story in the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs A Princess of Mars, Michael Moorcock's Michael Kane of Old Mars, C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy or—quite self-consciously—Flash Gordon. A farmboy stumbles across secret information that leads him to rescue a princess, aided by his two servants, his wizard mentor, a pirate and a friendly giant.
I instantly fell in love with these imaginary book covers by Timothy Anderson, which to me perfectly capture the feel and intention of the original Star Wars film.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Murakami's fiction is delightful, whether he's writing magical realism or a fake autobiography like this one. His style is the same in both genres: the trippy similes, the rich descriptions, the flights of introspection by the characters, the symbolism. That the narrative is first-person and that the book is just one long chapter -- as opposed to the omniscient third person narrator and the sequences of intertwined chapters in his other novels -- only strengthen the impact of the story.
Also delightful is that we are transported back to a time when people wrote letters -- the kind where we put pen to paper, the kind we had to stick in an envelope, go to to a post office or to a mailbox to send and wait for days until we got a reply, and precisely because so much time and effort were required, we tended to invest so much more of ourselves in the letters, working our thoughts onto the pages the way a painter works his vision onto the canvas. What a welcome break from today's shallow exchanges on the internet.
I found the letters included in the text of the novel real masterpieces; they contain deep, touching reflections on the inner worlds of the characters.
Finally, I was impressed by the way the characters dealt with sex. I know the Japanese culture can be repressive and prudish, but the young people in this novel show a no-nonsense attitude in this respect. Could it be because they were living in the 1960's?
