‘Trump has been explicit about revenge’: Asif #Kapadia on his new film about the threat to democracy

The man behind Amy and Senna has turned his attention to ‘techno-authoritarianism’ in the genre-defying 2073. He talks to our journalist – one of the #movie’s unlikely stars – about the events that fed his dystopian vision

Now up through S1E10 of Stargate SG-1 on my 1st watch through the series ever. Three episodes in a row have been good. I think they've hit their stride. Yeah you have to grade on a curve for 1990s TV budgets, effects, story quality, etc. but I'm still enjoying it #scifi #stargate #StargateSG1

Let's do some nice things for our brains! If this is up your alley, I highly recommend these anthologies. WWP does great work.

#3Movies about our future with #AI worth watching …

1) Maybe you know one of the opening scenes from 2001 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkNV_wALoYc ) where the apes invented the first tool with the bones. Then an ape throws a bone into the air and in the next cut you can see a space station orbiting the earth. This is a metaphor for the fact that we invented the tool first and then later we can no longer live without our tool. Although not as brilliantly as in 2001, the film recommended here poses the question of whether AI is still a tool or whether humans have already become a tool for AI? A.I. Rising: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/505914-a-i-rising
2) If AI controls everything for us in the near future, will everything be easier for us or can it be more difficult? Afraid: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1062215-afraid
3) Is humanity even worth saving? In an ethical discourse with an AI. Terminator Zero: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/239287-terminator

Today I saw two Love and Anarchy films, and they were both seriously weird. It's great when you walk out of the movie theater into the street and for a while just forget all about the ugliness of society around you, your mind processing all that audiovisual information you were just blasted with. I love this festival.

La bête (The beast)

I don't know what to think of this film. There was a lot of trying to figure out what exactly is happening, and more importantly when. As if in a dream, the film jumped (or did it?) between time, connecting two people, Gabrielle and Louis, wrapping them in a deep love story over space and time. In constant fear of tragedy just around the corner, never quite becoming the love story that you are constantly waiting to happen.

Beautiful filming, great screenplay and lots of mind warping jumps in the story, including some jump scares to keep the audience from getting too comfortable.

Infinite summer

Filmed in beautiful Estonia the film follows two teenagers as they spend their summer holiday at a cottage, catching up on their friendship and the challenges growing up causes. Feeling a loss of connection one of them connects to "Doctor Mindfulness", through an enhanced reality dating app. What they get is not quite what the scruffy mind expanding doctor promised.

There are several layers to this film, and I'm happy I stuck around for the director Q&A to get those clarified. On the one hand we have a teenager growth story, on the other hand we have a scare story of technology going horribly wrong. Or are things going wrong? Or is this a growth story of humanity as well, transcending into something else. Maybe not better, maybe not worse, but different. We are not told, and there probably is no answer.

Just came back from watching #AlienRomulus. Without giving away any spoilers, I think it's a creditable addition to the canon and tries to tie in most of the films made before it. There are also a couple of interesting "guest" appearances. It's not really horror like the 1979 original, just a few minor jump scares and some gore; I'd say it's more an action film.

Herrjeh!

Ethische Bedenken? Fehlanzeige... (weiter)
