Keir Starmer has discreetly appointed two former Israel #lobbyists, Ruth Anderson and Gillian Merron, both members of the House of Lords, to key positions in government.
Ruth Anderson (formerly Smeeth) has been installed as the government's whip in the House of Lords.
Anderson worked as director of public affairs at the largest Israel lobby group in the UK, BICOM. She also headed the Israeli Embassy's proxy, the Jewish Labour Movement.
Gillian Merron has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Patient Safety and Life Sciences in the Department of Health and Social Care. Merron headed the Israel lobby group, the British Board of Deputies, between 2014 and 2021.
Both have taken trips to meet with Israeli leaders during the Gaza genocide and pledge their support.
