A Middle East Peace That Could Happen (But Won’t)

In Washington-Speak, “Palestinian State” Means “Fried Chicken”

Noam Chomsky (Tom Dispatch)

The fact that the Israel-Palestine conflict grinds on without resolution might appear to be rather strange. For many of the world’s conflicts, it is difficult even to conjure up a feasible settlement. In this case, it is not only possible, but there is near universal agreement on its basic contours: a two-state settlement along the internationally recognized (pre-June 1967) borders — with “minor and mutual modifications,” to adopt official U.S. terminology before Washington departed from the international community in the mid-1970s.

The basic principles have been accepted by virtually the entire world, including the Arab states (who go on to call for full normalization of relations), the Organization of Islamic States (including Iran), and relevant non-state actors (including Hamas). A settlement along these lines was first proposed at the U.N. Security Council in January 1976 by the major Arab states. Israel refused to attend the session. The U.S. vetoed the resolution, and did so again in 1980. The record at the General Assembly since is similar. (...)

Bidenistaa be proud: Bezalel #Smotrich advocates for Israel to undermine the Palestinian Authority (PA) and withhold its funding in response to potential moves where if #UN formally recognizes Palestinian statehood or the International Criminal Court ( #ICC) issues arrest warrants against senior Israeli officials regarding war crimes in #Gaza.

In a letter to #Netanyahu, Smotrich said the best way to deal with such international moves would be to cut ties with the PA to “bring about its immediate fall”.

Additionally, Smotrich emphasizes his ministry's intention to withhold funding from the PA, noting Israel's full control over its tax revenues.

Israel still has no proof of Unrwa terrorist claims – but damage to aid agency is done

The Guardian

Inquiry has not backed up allegations of ties to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which led to loss of $450m as people died in droves. (...)

Three months later, the situation has only worsened with the onset of a human-made famine on top of the bombing, the collapse of healthcare, the lack of water and a rise in epidemics. (...)

Hezbollah sources claim that they ambushed a group of Israeli special forces who were trying to enter Lebanon and killed almost all of them.

The event happened last week, the information was posted the next day, but I could not verify it. Yesterday, an Israeli "expert" accidentally admitted on love TV that they lost 18 soldiers in northern Israel last week, something that he immediately changed to "injured".
Israel is trying hard to limit the information about their casualties in Lebanon and northern front and they have stepped up their bombings and incursions by special forces in the past few days.

The attacks against Gaza havd also increased to a level we haven't seen in the past few weeks with IDF preparing an all out invasion of #Rafah.

Tulkaram and other parts of occupied West Bank also been targets of unprecedented destruction and attacks by IDF.

The veto of #Biden at the #UN has emboldened Israel who has since bombed #Lebanon, #Syria and #Iraq, not to forget their attacks against #Iran. All with American provided bombs and fighter jets.

"While Washington and the occupiers insist on presenting an image of a debate on whether or not to carry out operations in #Rafah, his children are being killed by Israeli attacks on the 197th day of the genocide."

Israel has increased the intensity of it's attacks against #Gaza, from north to the south, Israeli planes, tanks, artillery and navy bombing the already unhabitable Gaza.

#Biden seems to have given Israel the green light to "finish the job" by their veto at #UN and handing over another $1B worth of military equipment and bombs.

US to veto Palestinian request for full UN membership

The U.S. will use its veto power against a Palestinian bid to be recognized as a member state of the United Nations during a vote at the Security Council expected to take place Thursday evening.

Vedant Patel, principal deputy spokesperson for the State Department, described as premature an effort by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to gain member status at the U.N.

He said there was not unanimity among the Security Council’s 15 members that the Palestinian Authority had met the criteria for membership, with unresolved questions over the governance of the Gaza Strip, where Israel is in a war to defeat and eliminate the controlling power, #Hamas.

Two state solution my ass!

The meeting of the Security Council, which was held under the name of "Middle East Situation" to review Iran's punitive action against Israel last night and at the request of them, ended its work without issuing any statement or resolution.

United Nations Special Rapporteur Visits Northern #Alberta

TREATY 6 (EDMONTON)—Representatives from Treaty 8, Treaty 6, and Keepers of the #Water will meet the #UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, during his visit to Canada. Arrojo-Agudo is visiting April 8 - 19 to discuss safe drinking water and sanitation. Alberta is facing a drought in 2024, and the extraction industry still has the right to much of the water that is left.

“Keepers of the Water will attend this meeting to share the serious concerns related to Water, such as the proposal to dump the toxic tailings into the Athabasca River and other industrial contamination concerns, as well as the immense water use by Industry and how that will impact this entire society as we are in a drought.”

Jesse Cardinal, Executive Director, Keepers of the Water
