"During the German occupation of France, Baker worked with the Red Cross and the RĂ©sistance, and as a member of the Free French forces she entertained troops in Africa and the Middle East. She was later awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honour with the rosette of the RĂ©sistance. After the war much of her energy was devoted to Les Milandes, her estate in southwestern France, from which she began in 1950 to adopt babies of all nationalities in the cause of what she defined as “an experiment in brotherhood” and her “rainbow tribe.” She adopted a total of 12 children."

"April 27, 1922 — In the high-flying world of female aviators, names such as Amelia Earhart and Amy Johnson immediately spring to mind. But almost forgotten English flyer Sheila Scott, who was born on this day, deserves praise and wider recognition too.

"Between 1965 and 1972 she staked her place in aviation history with more than 100 flying records, trophies, and awards. She made three solo flights around the world and became the first pilot, male or female, to fly directly over true North Pole in a light aircraft."

Der Regen klimpert mit einem Finger
die grĂŒne Ostermelodie.
Das Jahr wird Ă€lter und tĂ€glich jĂŒnger.
o Widerspruch voll Harmonie!

Der Mond in seiner goldenen Jacke
versteckt sich hinter dem Wolken-Store.
Der Ärmste hat links eine dicke Backe
und kommt sich ein bißchen lĂ€cherlich vor.
Auch diesmal ist es dem MĂ€rz geglĂŒckt:
Er hat ihn in den April geschickt.

Und schon hoppeln die Hasen,
mit Pinseln und Tuben
und schnuppernden Nasen,
aus Höhlen und Gruben
durch GĂ€rten und Straßen
und ĂŒber den Rasen
in StÀlle und Stuben.

Dort legten sie Eier, als ob's gar nichts wÀre,
aus Nougat, Krokant und Marzipan.
Der Tapferste legt eine Bonbonniere.
Er blickt dabei entschlossen ins Leere.
Bonbonnieren sind leichter gesagt als getan.

Dann geht es ans Malen. Das dauert Stunden.
Dann werden noch seidene Schleifen gebunden.
Und Verstecke gesucht. Und Verstecke gefunden:

Hinterm Ofen, unterm Sofa,
in der Wanduhr, auf dem Gang,
hinterm Schuppen, unterm Birnbaum,
in der Standuhr, auf dem Schrank.

Da krÀht der Hahn den Morgen an!
Schwupp, sind die Hasen verschwunden.
Ein Giebelfenster erglÀnzt im GemÀuer.
Am Gartentor lehnt und gÀhnt ein Mann.
Über die HĂ€nge lĂ€uft grĂŒnes Feuer
die BĂŒsche entlang und die Pappeln hinan.
Der FrĂŒhling, denkt er, kommt also auch heuer.
Er spĂŒrt nicht Wunder noch Abenteuer"
weil er sich nicht mehr wundern kann.

Liegt dort nicht ein kleiner Pinsel im Grase?
Auch das kommt dem Manne nicht seltsam vor.
Er merkt gar nicht, daß ihn ein Osterhase
auf dem Heimweg verlor.

Every year on #April #22, #Earth #Day marks the #anniversary of the #birth of the modern #environmental #movement in 1970. We are honoring Earth Day with the #futurist #Buckminster #Fuller (1895-1983), an American #architect, #systems #theorist, #author, #designer, #inventor and #philosopher. Fuller believed human societies would soon rely mainly on #renewable #sources of #energy, such as #solar- and #wind-derived #electricity.

Fuller developed numerous inventions, mainly architectural designs, and popularized the widely known #geodesic #dome; #carbon #molecules known as fullerenes were later named by scientists for their structural and mathematical resemblance to geodesic #spheres.
