Saving seeds is such a great and easy idea.

These are the seeds from two radishes I let grow old until they bloomed. Each had 3-4 bunch of flowers that were pretty and attracted pollinators.

When the plants finally died, I let them dry out and picked up the flowers and got these seeds.

It's almost 10 times the amount one gets when buying 1€ packs of organic seeds.

Going to put them in paper paper towels and then in envelops to keep them for a long time. But some will be used in the little new hydroponic experiment I started to see if I can create a mini sandponics system with 12,5cm PVC pipes so filled with perlites and vermiculite.

Economical way of stashing some seeds for future!

Wanted to have a couple of #Sorrano pepper plants and seeds are only sold in package for 4 euro.

Went to our market and paid 4.50 for 5 #peppers, took the seeds out and had one in my dinner last night and the rest going to freezer.

And have tons of #seeds!

Have to use gloves when I'm working with them. Their inside flesh and seeds are extremely spicy.

Trying to organize and get rid of old and opened seed packs.

Many of them I received when I bought IKEA Krydda Hydroponic units. A few are those I bought myself.

They have been open for at least 3 years and not sure any of them will germinate.

As I'm planning to start my hydroponic systems, have to decide which one are with keeping, and which needs to be thrown away.

My goal for this summer is to be 100% self sufficient when it comes to vegetables. My 10m² balcony is more than enough to grow vegetables for my personal needs as well as some for my birds.

PS. These are just a fraction of all the seeds I have.

Found a package of mystery seeds with a paper that supposedly shows what they are, but I am more puzzled than before.

I don't even remember when I bought them, but I think it was back in 2018 when I was planning to order some seeds for my organic farming workshops in Ghana back in 2018.

The last one is definitely melon or cantaloupe. The other ones is harder.

Vandana Shiva

The Seeds of Vandana Shiva

When you control seed you control life on earth.

In her colorful sari and large scarlet bindi, Dr. Vandana Shiva is an arresting presence: She galvanizes crowds, advises government leaders, fields constant calls from the media, then retreats from big-city buzz to work alongside small farmers across the developing world.

Who is she? What is her mission? How did this woman from an obscure town in India become Monsanto’s worst nightmare: a rebellious rock star in the global debate about who feeds the world?

Among those engaged with organic food and farming, climate change, biodiversity, seed sovereignty, globalisation, and social justice, Vandana Shiva is an icon of a global movement.

But even among those who pride themselves on being well-informed, she’s relatively unknown. Few are aware of how this daughter of a Himalayan forest conservator rose from obscurity to become a world leader of Gandhian stature.

Hers is the remarkable and unlikely story of a girl who trekked from highland cabin to cabin alongside her father, tended a garden alongside her mother, and passionately pursued an education that freed her from the caste and gender constraints of traditional Indian society that culminated in a degree in Nuclear Physics, and then a Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Quantum Theory.

But those achievements were merely a prelude to her awakening as a fully-committed activist.

Vandana Shiva brought her scientific expertise and Gandhian principles of non-violent resistance to the struggles of poor Indian villagers whose livelihoods were being crushed by corporate capitalism. She has become a formidable opponent to those corporations whose drive for privatization and profit are destroying the environment and changing the climate. Their predations in the name of a ‘green revolution’ with its promises of wealth and freedom and ‘feeding the world’ through patented and chemically-dependent GMO seeds are reducing traditional farmers and entire communities to inescapable servitude. In India, the fruits of the Green Revolution are an epidemic of rural suicides.

The Seeds of Vandana Shiva focuses on the people, circumstances and seminal events in Vandana’s life—what shaped her thinking and defined her purpose. It also shows how the battle against multinational agribusiness has become an international struggle between two visions for feeding the world: The first, a multinational corporate model of chemically dependent monoculture that rewards a capitalist imperative of profit and growth. And the other, ‘Earth Democracy, that honors ecology, biodiversity, sustainability and community—what Dr. Shiva demonstrates is the only way forward for the future of food.

Tiny Tim tomato seeds saved for future and sharing.

Using paper towel makes it dry fast and clean. It also makes it possible to mail it all over the world using normal envelopes.

The system is fool proof and i have been doing it since 2018.

I will make a few more of these to save and take with me to Ghana. It will be fun to introduce a new tomato to schools and orphanages and to help them grow their own tomatoes in the kitchen and classrooms.

Nettle Seeds.

enter image description here
Did you know that #female #nettle #seeds are packed with:

Vitamin A
Vitamin B (several)
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
Vitamin K
Iron
Silicon
Calcium
Magnesium
Manganese
Phosphorus
Potassium
Beta Carotene
Folic Acid
Essential Fatty Acids (several) and the neurotransmitters acetylcholine and serotonin, making them natural mood boosters.

They are used as an adrenal tonic and great as a pick me up for people who are burnt-out, run down, depressed, fatigued, low in energy and with low libido as they increase active testosterone levels.
Dried nettle seeds can be added to your morning oats, added to breads, sprinkled on salad or eaten by the teaspoon but don’t take more than 15g per day to start with as they will really interfere with your sleep!
How do you identify female from male plants? Easy!! Males seeds pods are not so abundant and stand more erect 😳 whilst the female seeds are laden in seeds and droop downwards 🙄!!
