A Walking Stick from a Pecan Tree

Dear Jeffrey,

You wrote ~

You see.  You are an "Our".
I am a "My."
You are a "We".
I am an "I".
You have all that I am without.
I have not seen a pecan tree since I lived in the South.
Nor have I had a slice of real pecan pie since then.
A substitute would be too cruel.
So, I pass them by.
But I often have pecans in my home.
I buy them in stores, or from far away places.
They are already nicely shelled.
I am denied the pleasure of cracking the shell open
with a nut cracker, or a light touch with a hammer.
I am denied crushing two together in the palms of my hands.
The goal is to get the pecan halves out in one whole piece.
I remember.

I am without relatives, and someone telling me
that my ancestors made beautiful jewelry out of pecan shells.
Others made boxes, furniture and toys from pecan tree wood.
I am without warm Southern breezes, and the scent of magnolias
and flowers in the air, and how it looks and feels when
It is just about to rain and the sun is still shining.
That all comes with pecans.

I am without the mindless chit chat in Southern accents
while we sat on a porch and snapped bushels of green beans,
shelled peas, and shucked the husks off of corn on the cob.
I am without my youth and innocent, happier days when I did not know ~
I was so ignorant. I did not realize those day were so precious
and would never come again.
I am without all of those pecan tree things.
But I do have corporate shelled pecans in a can as small mementos.

Dear, dear Paul!
Yesterday and today I thought a great deal about you – or about us, if you will. I am not writing to you because I want you to write again, but because it gives me pleasure and because I want to. I had also planned to meet you somewhere in Paris very soon, but then my stupid and vain sense of duty kept me here and I did not leave. What does this mean anyway – ‘somewhere in Paris’? I don’t know anything, but I do think it would have been lovely somehow!
Three months ago someone suddenly gave me your book of poems as a gift. I didn’t know it had come out. That was so… the ground was so light and buoyant beneath me, and my hand was trembling a little, just a very little bit.
[…] I still do not know what last spring meant. – You know me, I always want to know everything very precisely. – It was lovely – and so were the poems, and the poem we made together.
Today you are dear to me and so present. That is what I want to tell you at all costs – I often neglected to do so during that time.

Ieri e oggi ho pensato molto a te - o a noi, se vuoi. Non ti scrivo perché voglio che tu mi scriva di nuovo, ma perché mi fa piacere e perché lo voglio. Avevo anche programmato di incontrarti presto da qualche parte a Parigi, ma poi il mio stupido e vano senso del dovere mi ha trattenuto qui e non sono partita. Ma cosa significa "da qualche parte a Parigi"? Non so nulla, ma penso che in qualche modo sarebbe stato bello!
Tre mesi fa qualcuno mi ha improvvisamente regalato il tuo libro di poesie. Non sapevo che fosse uscito. È stato così... la terra era così leggera e fluttuante sotto di me, e la mia mano tremava un po', solo un pochino.

I have branched out I am now writing letters to the nz Green party. They claim to love the planet let's see if they love power more then the planet.

Dear Green pary

I send this to you as you are from the area of my home and land but this letter is for all politicians in your party.

The history of the green party is intertwined with the anti nuclear campaign. New zealand stood above the world and banned nuclear weapons on our soil and we left the ANZUS agreement as part of this.

This took courage to go against the grain and stand up to power.

Right now new zealand has observer status in NATO, this organisation is based on the use of nuclear weapons and at this time NATO is in a proxy war that it was directly involved in starting.

As much as our politicians and media deny history this war is NATOs war. Mr Putin threatened nuclear war in response to NATOs threats of the use of tactical nuclear weapons. The USA nuclear doctrine which underpins NATO allows the use of tactical nuclear weapons in war outside of a direct threat to the nation.

They have given themselves the ability to use tactical nuclear weapons within the theatre of conventional war.

I have some questions.

You are in a position of power even without being directly involved in government as a politician you have access to media that most of us little people do not have.

Why has your party been silent on the threat of nuclear war and the use of tactical nuclear weapons. I don't care what side you are on but your silence is concerning.

You may support Ukraine but Ukraine and the people who live in Ukraine will not benefit from the use of nuclear weapons and neither will anyone else on this planet.

This war must stop and right now the only way that can happen is by negotiations it is not going to stop with a ukrainian victory. Lives are being wasted and all our lives will be wasted if we continue on the path we are going.

Right now we need actual leaders, leaders are not rulers. Rulers tell people what to do, leaders do not give orders they stand at the front and lead by example.

Are you so hypnotised by power that you will sit quietly and see the rulers of our world destroy us because they are phycopaths or will you stand up and lead. You have power why are you silent?

Our main propaganda network ran another garbage story that had quite threatening undertones so I wrote another letter for what or worth

I feel that our media is actively moving public opinion towards nuclear war and genocide of the Russian people it's past concerning.

I decided to write letters for a weird reason and that is so they know my name and address and when they go full totalitarian they can come for me. I would rather die in their jail then live as a coward and these letters are to stop me denying my thoughts so I can't hide even if I want to.

I really should read it a few times there are a few errors

This is getting tiresome but once again I have noticed an article that seems to lack facts.

In this article they make the allegation that Russia sabotaged the nord stream pipeline which Russia built at a cost of $20 billion USD and in which the gas flows from Russia to Germany. On its way it passes through a tap on the Russian end, you know that one.

I quote

Russian sabotage on Western targets could be grounds for triggering Nato’s Article 5, the alliance’s secretary-general warned Wednesday (NZT), amid suspicions that Moscow planted explosives on underwater gas pipelines.

The evidence presented is a drawing of little people in subs blowing up the pipe.

I have seen video of hunter Biden having sex with a prostitute and snorting cocaine but even this was not considered evidence that he snorted cocaine and had sex with a prostitute so I struggle to see what evidence has been presented so far that can be used to justify such allegations.

Why would you run an article that has no evidence to back the accusations? This is just a crazy conspiracy theory.

That you publish this article raises some serious questions about your organisation

What is being discussed in this article is nuclear war. The idea that article 5 which apparently NATO have the privilege to declare is in reality a threat to wage nuclear war. This is the threat that is implied and the comment by Mr Fleming that
there were “no guarantees” the West might see a Russian nuclear attack coming is also true of Russia.

Maybe in your world you do not notice the comment of such luminaries "loonies" as Mr Bolton who seems to believe tactical nuclear weapons can be used.

But this is a serious discussion in the centres of power and who knows but last time Russia was attacked from the west it was during a training exercise which turned into operation barbarosa that cost Russia 10000 men per day lost. They are a bit touchy about threats from the west.

Your organisation has power which we little people do not have and as any real journalist would agree your job is to punch up but you do not. You seem to be a public relations company for the western empire.

I could never work out is it because you are bought, threatened or willingly participate. Considering we are edging closer to nuclear armageddon which you seem to be actively participating with both silence and active propaganda I can only conclude you are willing actors.

Nuclear war and even the theoretical use of a non escalating tactical nuclear weapon is a crime against humanity and I believe, from the radiation on your breath and the eagerness to take sides, that your organisation is aiding and abetting this crime against humanity.

Again I have zero power but you do and by telling the truth, giving context and balance peace could be achieved. This is not an unprovoked war and you know it yet you repeat this claim and if Putin is a war criminal so is Tony Blair and George Bush.

Julian Assange sits in jail for daring to tell the truth is this why you are free to continue publishing?

I got sick of reading that highly suspicious military death toll of Ukraine they keep on pitching and the term unprovoked so I wrote an email.

I made a mistake and put down 90000 killed but it was 80000 Russians killed or wounded but its more the 9000 ukrainian death toll that gets me.

So if the Russians say 2000 and we say 25000 then that's over 10x so 9000 ukrainian dead at least equals 90000 which is a tragedy.

They actually replied I suspect because I made an error they could beat me with

We are supposed to be the honest truthful democracy that won't exist if our media are liers

I understand your need to publish propaganda for the advancement of your ideology or profit but do you ever feel that at some point the reality may diverge so far from the reported news that things start to get unbelievable.

When I was young I used to listen to the soviet union broadcasts for a laugh. Tractor production up 50%, steel production up 100%, glorious happy well feed people so happy they would escape at the slightest opportunity.

Now I read your articles for some humour . Unfortunately this just makes me sad and casts doubt over every thing the media has ever and will ever print.

This article

You claim the 9000 ukrainian soldiers have died and up to 90000 Russian soldiers in this unprovoked war.

Mr Zelensky admitted 100 soldiers were dying a day so for the 6 months that's well over the 9000. I don't know how many Russians have died but if the Russians say 2000 and your side says 90000 then that says something about information and propaganda during a war.

I have seen calculations of up to 190000 dead Ukrainians . That's dead so times that by 4 to get the wounded. I really don't think you are doing any favours for anyone except a small group of war mongers for not questioning these numbers.

Also the repeated claims of an unprovoked attack can at the least be disputed. There was some history before which seems to be left uncovered. Even if you oppose Russia, like any argument, if you are to solve it you need to know both sides. Do you not want to solve this problem?

I don't know the truth either but I look around, do you? It is allegedly your job so I would expect you to at the very least check or question.

Trust can only come from reporting the truth. I would rather you admitted you don't know things then print propaganda as fact.

If you actively lie what else are you going to lie about and then where does that leave us? Listening to Alex Jones or something. I understand you take money from the government so maybe you have no choice but like those unvaccinated people if you really disagree then you are free to walk away from your job.

If you continue to publish these numbers with out question you are as guilty as all those who are profiting from this war.

We can't change nor recreate history but we can learn from it.

This story does not include a 90,000 figure for Russia. It quotes a range of figures, from different sources. I would note that it is a story from the Associated Press, and has been republished with permission. For international stories like the war in Ukraine, we rely on our reputable partners for expert reporting. If you have further concerns about the figures, you should contact AP. If they make a change to their story we will reflect it on Stuff.

So they get their propaganda from external sources and check nothing and if you have complaints go fuck off (I think that's how it translated). Also left out any mention of provocation or history even to denounce such thought.

Note to self, must stop getting angry and writing letters.

I don't think taking sides will help but the truth goes a long way to stop these things
