Fascinating idea
The whole episode has left me reflecting on how this striving for purity and clarity has been baked into the internet since its inception: a phenomenon that itself has earlier roots in a specifically American - more particularly, Californian - culture. This is a culture that optimises for thin social encounters, assumed to take place almost always between strangers: the culture you might expect to form at the utter West, founded on the impulse to leave behind constraining tradition and dreary familiarity and begin again, among strangers, on a blank slate.
In this maximally-thin culture, the most basic courtesy you can extend someone is not to read someone else’s social signals, but to pointedly not read their signalling: to assume only that you cannot make assumptions. And the corollary of this courteous refusal to make assumptions is then that desires, preferences, and social codes may safely be ignored, unless they are explicitly spelled out.

L'enfant don
Au début du vingtième siècle, dans une haute vallée pyrénéenne dont l’isolement a limité l’influence de la religion chrétienne et du patriarcat, Seuvia, aînée et donc tête d’une maison-souche, décide de concevoir un enfant pour l’offrir à une autre femme qui ne peut pas en avoir. Ce don longuement réfléchi pallie la souffrance du couple-ami et donne naissance à une nouvelle maison.
En prenant la guerre civile espagnole pour toile de fond, ce récit nous fait découvrir une société montagnarde où la femme bénéficie d’un statut particulier : bien au-delà de sa fonction de mère, celle-ci s’impose comme pilier essentiel et fondateur d’une communauté qui plonge ses racines dans les arbres, les pierres et les légendes enchantées.

According to Mustafa Fatemi, Director General of the Tourism Development Office of the Ministry of #Cultural Heritage, the case of Palengan Kurdistan and seven other villages will be sent to the World Tourism Organization for selection as a global village.

Comment tourner la page ? Quand renoncer à la musique ? Est-ce seulement possible ?
Je pense souvent à l’un de mes amis, violoniste, qui a pris récemment sa retraite, après une carrière bien remplie, brillante et internationale, débutée fin 60’s début 70’s. Une cinquantaine d’années de bons et loyaux services, la mentonnière sous les joues.
Son petit étui ne le quitte pourtant jamais et, pour peu que l’un de nous se pose devant un piano ou empoigne une guitare, l’instrument sort immédiatement de sa boite et les heures passent, enluminées de rythmes et de mélodies improvisés.
Alors pourquoi mettre un terme à une aussi flamboyante carrière dont le dernier épisode s’est joué au sein d’un groupe d’Afrique du Sud basé à Londres ?
Parce qu’il ne veut plus voyager. Avions, cars, trains, autos, terminé ! Passer le restant de ses jours peinard, dans sa petite maison sous le soleil du Sud Ouest. Rencontrer ses potes trop longtemps négligés, plaisanter, improviser des apéros, laisser les heures s’étirer nonchalamment, enfin.
Mais, encore une fois, l’étui reste à portée de main, l’archet et le violon surgissant hors de leur boîte à la moindre sollicitation.
Bien sûr, nous ne menons pas tous ce type de carrière, certains en rêvent, d’autres y renoncent sans même tenter le coup, beaucoup pratiquent sans espérer en vivre et quelques uns misent tout sur une hypothétique réussite, sacrifiant toute forme de vie intime dans cette quête.
Quoi qu’il en soit, nos existences sont toutes tissées de rythmes et de mélodies, d’airs et de paroles qui ne nous quitteront jamais, dans le bonheur ou les chagrins, les joies ou les peines.
Alors, la réponse aux questions initiales :
Eh bien non, nous ne renoncerons jamais !
