The Best Podcasts for Your Smart, Bored Kid

Image with the Mona Lisa and some green star shaped emoticons around her head. Text says Tinkercast Who, When, Wow!
Some excellent kid safe and also informative podcasts in the list at the linked article. I’d say though they are not just for long trips in the car, as it is actually a good habit to listen to focussed and informative topics at any time. Much of my own day, including shopping trips and when driving, are spent listening to podcasts.

Audio podcasts are great for those times when you are busy doing something, and cannot be watching a screen the whole time. You can slow down, or speed up, podcast listening too.

Why are younger voters flocking to the far right in parts of Europe?

“I voted for Wilders, and many of my friends did too,” he said. “I don’t want to live with my parents for ever. I want my own home, and to be able to provide for my family later on. Wilders wants to figure out the housing crisis, and make our healthcare better. Those are the most important topics for me.”

In Volendam, where the PVV won 42.9% of the vote, that was Gerald’s point. “Younger people, the woke ones from the big cities, care about the climate and gender stuff but they are ignoring the real problems that we have here and now,” he said.

Far-right parties are not the preferred option – or even second choice – for younger voters everywhere in Europe, analysts caution. The trend appears strongest in countries such as Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.

In the Netherlands, the PVV surged to become the largest party among 18- to 34-year-olds, winning 17% of their vote against 7% previously. In Sweden’s 2022 ballot, 22% of the 18-21 cohort voted for the far-right Sweden Democrats, against 12% in 2018.

Spain’s Vox has a particularly slick operation, and Sławomir Mentzen, the 37-year-old leader of Poland’s ultra-liberal far-right Konfederacja (Confederation) party, has 800,000 followers on TikTok.

Even if “economic grievances, insecurities around housing, jobs, futures” may account for much of the youth vote, he said, “we’re seeing the growth to fruition of a concerted far- and extreme-right effort to reach and radicalise young people”.

Kids Are Getting a Bad Reputation and it's Not Justified

I'm still #newhere because I wanted a place to make a #blog that doesn't make me make an account, pay for it, or have ads to pay for it. So here's my first blog entry.

All you see on TV #news or on the internet about #kids is about how stupid kids are, how confused about everything from #science, especially #biology, to #history and human interaction. Maybe in big cities where #education is all corrupted by politics that might be true. But I don't think you can write off a whole generation because kids in the news don't know which bathroom to use and can't tell you anything about the history of their own country and culture. We're not all like that! In fact I think the majority of kids, the ones you never hear about, aren't so ignorant and confused as people think.

I wonder if that is true about a lot of things. Watching the news it all looks bad! But people find ways to make life work and get through life without all that drama and without wars and protests and things that just make noise and hide the real truth behind one crisis after another.

#Adults reading this should know that probably most kids aren't all mixed up about their identity or their gender. The only thing really in doubt is our future, because the world we are about to inherit is a big battleground where the powerful compete for more power and who use confusion and mayhem to accomplish it.

8 Amazing Linux Distributions for Kids

Coloured tiles highlighting activities such as Numbers, Finance, Maze Web, Measure, TurtleBlocks3D, Words, Ruler, StarChart, Recall, Journal share, Typing Turtle, and Turtle in a Pond.
Linux and open source are the future and there is no doubt about that, to see this come to a reality, a strong foundation has to be laid, by starting from the lowest level possible and that is exposing kids to Linux and teaching them how to use Linux operating systems.

Linux is a very powerful operating system, and that is one of the reasons why it powers a lot of servers on the Internet. Though there have been concerns about its user-friendliness, which has brought about the debate of how it will overtake Mac OSX and Windows on desktop computers, I think users need to accept Linux as it is to realize its real power.

Why Linux specifically? One thing common to children is curiosity, and early learning can help instil a character of exploration in them when the learning environment is designed to suit their needs. Linux is all about curiosity, experimentation, learning how it works, adaptability and customisation.
